Cliffe Cottage has all you need for a great stay in Castleton. We spent the late May bank holiday weekend with our friends, our dogs and our 2 year old son...
The directions given when we booked were good and as we had a lot of stuff to unpack after first walking to the cottage I decided to drive down the bank to it.... Only attempt this if you are a confident driver as you have to manoeuvre through a tight gap at the bottom of the hill!
We drive a 4x4 and managed to squeeze through so if you don't want to carry all your possessions down the hill (or it's poor weather) it is possible to get your car all the way to the door! Once unloaded parking in the residents car park is only a short walk away.
The property is nestled into the side of the gorge leading to Peak Cavern so views are limited but if you intend spending your time out and about walking/cycling/caving etc then no need to worry.
If you do plan to cycle and bring your bikes there is a large garage attached to the house!
Beds were clean and comfy, the bathroom clean and a reasonable size the kitchen had plenty of equipment and the lounge/diner had plenty of space for us all.
We have 2 large dogs so were grateful for the 'no extra charge for pets' as sometimes the additional pet fees can be quite high.
Plenty of pubs in walking distance and lots to fill your days with in the local area.
We had a wonderful stay, Derwent House is a perfect place. Close to the river, the park and public transport. The extra finishing touches in the house made our stay most enjoyable we would recommend the house to anyone who likes a bit of luxury. Everything you could wish for, bungalow is exceptional, clean, well presented , all the gadgets you need in the kitchen, bathroom and lounge.
Beautiful views over Buxton and distant hills.
Ideal location for exploring Buxton and the superb villages in the Peak District generally.
Lorraine made us very welcome and left us a super goody bag as well.
We thoroughly enjoyed our recent stay here after struggling to find the disabled facilities which my husband requires but also accepts our two pet terriers. We were made to feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble with good advice given.
Tom's Barn & Douglas's Barn
We received a warm welcome complemented by the homemade cake and marmalade - both excellent.
Douglas's barn is quiet, comfortable and great for relaxing in. Very well equipped - the best I've seen - and the provision of a netbook lets you explore the surroundings on-line before venturing out.
Set in the quiet village of Parwich with good access to Bakewell, Buxton and Carsington Water, and attractions such as Chatsworth and Ilam and Tissington Halls.
The area has a wealth of footpaths and there are several walk books and maps in the barn.
A very enjoyable stay that we hope to repeat.

From the moment we arrived to a warm welcome from owners Vicki and Steve and an array of delicious cakes, till the moment we left, our visit exceeded our already high expectations. The rooms were beautifully furnished, we loved the themed bedrooms, and warm and cosy even after a very frosty night. The kitchen was very well equipped and absolutely everything we needed was provided. The log burner was a lovely feature in the comfortable lounge and so easy to use. Our family group was aged 2 to 88 so we made good use of the playroom and excellent games room as well as the stunning location. The 2 year old loved visiting the alpacas and collecting eggs from the hens. We had an amazing weekend that could not be faulted.
