We had a wonderful stay, Derwent House is a perfect place. Close to the river, the park and public transport. The extra finishing touches in the house made our stay most enjoyable we would recommend the house to anyone who likes a bit of luxury. A well equipped kitchen with most things required for a home cooked three course meal for 10, along with some lovely little touches (chocolates, wine, flowers in every room, and luxury soup/handcream throughout). The taller members of the party had to remember to duck through the doors but otherwise a really well presented property that was a nice place to come back to after being out in the area - including a great CD collection!

Make up of party:  Friends from all parts of the UK, including small people - who particularly enjoyed the kids play area just meters from the house!

Our second visit as getting all of us together is a bit crowded anywhere but here. We loved the home comforts and the attention to detail that meant that everything from a sewing kit to stock cubes were available should we require them. Wi-Fi throughout the house delighted the teenagers and the not so young alike!! So many attractive and comfortable rooms meant privacy and company were both easily achieved. Damien is the perfect host determined to make sure your stay is everything you could dream of. Plenty to see and do in the area. Visit once and you'll be planning an excuse to return from the moment you arrive. Our third visit is already taking shape!

Fabulous house, location, welcome and weekend. The house was immaculate, it had everything we could have wished for with Matlock on the doorstep with everything you need a short walk. The park across the street is fantastic for children as one of the things we were worried about was outside space. Kitchen well equipped, all rooms exceptional. Only problem was beds are very high for young children and if you're tall mind your head!! Couoldn't recommend it more!

This is a wonderful house with plenty of character. It is well presented, beautifully decorated and lovely to stay in. Watch out if you are tall though, the low doorways could cause some pain. It was lovely to be welcomed by the extras - wine, biscuits and juice, and also fresh flowers in every room. A fantastic place to stay.

A special family birthday weekend with 12 all told followed by three days with friends for a range of good long walks.

Comfy and welcoming and superbly suited for its job this house is well worth a visit. The attention to detail is great and suggestions for improvements carefully and courteously considered and actioned. Room for the family to keep out of each other's way, if needed, and great facilities to eat and do things together when appropriate.

We will go back.

This is the second time we've been back and we obviously love it. We first came a year ago and were pleased to find that it has been kept up to the same exeptional standard. Its a beautiful house in a great location -close to a great park for children and adults, close to town and any amenities you need but you still feel like you are in an isolated retreat.

Make up of party:  3 couples with our toddlers and babies, making a total of 11 of us plus a bump.

Derwent house was ideal for our weekend meeting which involved some work (ideal huge table)and a lot of relaxing in total comfort. Instead of the usual stuffy conference venue, the house worked as a relaxed and comfortable retreat from the pressures of the office. EVERYTHING we needed was there and the very up market bath oils and fresh flowers meant no one was rushing to get away. It was hard to get some people to concentrate as they were too busy raving about the fabrics! This is an absolute winner, faultless in every respect...The open fire and the lovely sofas at the end of the day turned a bunch of work colleagues into fast friends!

Derwent House is a comfortable beautiul majestic home. It is warm given its size, with large windows that could be opened if required.

When we arrived we where all so happy in many rooms where fresh cut flowers and a welcome gifts and wine so that got our weekend off to a good start.

The kitchen fantastically equipped you could cook any meal, every utensil availabe. The bedrooms all comfortable and each room had its own unique character.

The position was brilliant for visiting Chaatsworth, Bakewell etc but the local area is so beautiful too, so much so we are all booked in again same weekend 2009!! A Gem that we have all shared with others. others.

Make up of party:  6 professional couples all on a long weekend break without the children, friends from all over Yorkshire and Essex, excellent central meeting point.

Cottage Review: We booked the house for a group of friends with young children. There were 10 adults and 5 children and we had a fantastic long weekend at Derwent House. It is really well kitted out with everything that we needed and the layout and decor was superb. We are already looking at booking again for next year. There was a children's park within a 100 yards of the property with a Lido so we are looking at spring for our next visit. I could not fault our stay and would highly recommend a visit.

Cottage Review: We chose Derwent House as the venue for our first ever cousins' reunion, which we were hoping to turn into an annual affair, so it was really important that everything went smoothly. The house was warm and spacious, with lots of space to prepare and enjoy large meals. Good entertainment facilities in the front room, including a Bluetooth stereo with plenty of comfortable seating for everyone to be together and if you wanted a bit of peace and quiet, it was easy to retire to one of the bedrooms, which each felt like mini hotel suites. After a wet winter the surrounding peaks were a bit sodden, but the house had an excellent utilities room where muddy boots could be removed and an even muddier dog could be dried off. Nice park nearby with easy access to shops, would definitely recommend/return.

Cottage Review: 10 of us from three generations (and a dog) stayed over a long weekend to celebrate a milestone birthday. The house is spacious and characterful, and the fittings and decoration were faultless. We found everything we needed and appreciated the "essential" supplies provided on arrival. Green space outside the door and a short pleasant stroll into town. Just great

Cottage Review: This large house in Matlock provides wonderful, spacious accommodation to suit various combinations of guests (there are double beds in some rooms, twins in others). The house is in a lovely peaceful location opposite a park yet within easy walking distance of the town centre, best reached through the lovely park (which has many features, ideal for children). The owners have shown great attention to detail: the house is extremely well equipped, very clean and well presented and on top of this we found a number of lovely additional touches. The owners were quick to introduce themselves personally, all adding to the feeling of care they put in to making your holiday as nice as possible. Parking can be limited, being on-street (on one side only), however spaces seem to come available around the end of the working day so we did manage to get parked every evening.
