| Cottage Review:
A group of 5 of us from Australia rented this apartment for a week. We used it as a base for walking in the Lake District. The owners live nearby, and are helpful, offering to purchase for us prior to,our arrival basic supplies from the local store. Ask one of the proprietors to show you how to lock and unlock the external door, and also what to do should the smoke alarm sound while you are preparing a meal. The rooms are clean, beds comfortable, and there is good wardrobe space in 2 of the 3 rooms. The kitchen is large, and well stocked with utensils, and all the appliances work (save for the knives, which need sharpening). The lounge room is spacious, with good views over the town, and there is an open fire. The 2 bathrooms have very good showers. Parking is provided for 2 cars. If you don\'t want to prepare your own food, or just want a night away from the kitchen, there is an excellent pub - \'the Greyhound\' - in nearby Shap. It\'s about 12 minutes driving distance from Orton, and is on the right hand side just after you enter the town. Meals are also available at the hotel in Orton, though we didn\'t sample these. The local shop has a surprisingly wide range of goods, and also acts as a post office. Orton is a lovely town, providing very good access to both the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales.
