Myself, my Wife and our Dog stayed at Shamrock Cottage for 4 nights a couple of weeks ago and loved the place.

It's very well appointed, retains lots of its original charm but has been brought up to date with several mod cons. It's exceptionally comfortable and to have the sun streaming through the bedroom window one day was just the icing on the cake.

The local pub (The Pheasant Inn) just down the road provided excellent food, ales and service and is even dog friendly. Being so close to places like Cartmel, Grange, Kendal and the Lakes means that Shamrock Cottage is ideally placed.

Loved the Goose too :-D.

Hopefully we'll be back some day.

We had a super stay here.We like staying in this area because it is peaceful, esp during the holidays when the likes of Windermere/Coniston are heaving. Its great to drive into the Lakes but we enjoyed the sanctuary of sitting on the terrace with a glass of wine in the evening sun and just hearing the sheep and cows.A very cosy cottage and perfectly equipped. we would definitely choose to stay here again.

Beautifully decorated, well appointed cosy cottage in a lovely area. Lots of home comforts (fluffy towels, welcome pack and log burner). The local pub (2 mins walk) is excellent for food and very friendly. Great base for all The Lakes attractions [Added at Editor's discretion since it appears to be a helpful review and the reviewer has been authenticated]

Lovely dog-friendly cottage in a quiet village with easy access to the lakeland environment. There's a very good post office/convenience store a minute's walk up the lane. Not particularly good for early morning dog walks locally but it's less than ten minute drive to Cartmel, where there are beautiful woods and open country for your dog to frolic in.

We were very sad to leave after having the most fantastic holiday staying at Shamrock Cottage. Our daughter (4) kissed the living room wall to say goodbye!

Not only is the cottage beautiful, cosy and clean, but it's equipped with everything you could possibly need so you don't need to take any just-in-case-essentials. They'll be there!

We felt at home right away partly because we felt so welcomed by Simon through his emails beforehand, all the great information to help us make more of our stay that was left at the cottage and partly because it just IS so comfortable and homely once you arrive.

You can tell great care has been taken to make sure the cottage is a lovely place to stay. I spent a long time googling for cottages to find one we wanted to stay in and this one stood out as soon I saw it because it looks like a home and not just a house. The woodburning stove is an added bonus.

We will definitely stay at Shamrock Cottage (or one of the others) again.

Cottage Review:

My friend and I booked this cottage as a girl's weekend getaway for my birthday. It was, hands down, one of the best birthday's I have ever had. The cottage was everything I could have wanted. The lounge was nice and cozy, with a lovely fire, where we could sit and read, or chat over wine and cheese (purchased from the famous cheese shop in Cartmel).

The beds were so comfortable, and so cozy, we both declared we must go home and attempt to recreate the coziness in our own homes.

We didn't have a car but that did not pose any problems for us. There are so many great walks and strolls within easy distance of the cottage, we didn't feel like we missed out at all. We did our grocery shopping at all the lovely shops in Grange-Over-Sands when we got off the train, and then took an extremely reasonable and very quick cab ride to the cottage. While a car would be advantageous to explore a greater area, for a relaxing weekend getaway, you can't do better.

We fell in love with the cottage immediately and are already plotting a return!

The photos only give half the story. Shamrock Cottage has a homely, cosy warmth about it that imparts a sense of ownership and belonging whilst staying there. Clearly a lot of thought has gone into styling and equipping the cottage. The kitchen is small but easy and pleasurable to work in. We self catered each evening after busy days out and found everything we needed to prepare a range of meals including Christmas dinner.

The location was ideal for us. Out every day, we found a good mix of things to see and do within short driving distances:

Country/coastal and forestry walks; interesting speciality shops and good visitor attractions - Lakeland Motor Museum/Newby Bridge Aquarium/Beatrix Potter Experience/Flookburgh miniature village (closed for winter but the owners very kindly opened up specially for us).

Memorable highlights of our stay:The Goose lamp light in the window to welcome us when we arrived and then seeing the lit Christmas Tree when we opened the door;and, joining the large crowd to watch and sing along with the Brass Band playing Carols in Flookburgh square on Christmas Day morning.

Booking arrangements were very straightforward and Simons follow up after our visit was very much appreciated.

All in all, as you may have guessed, an excellent and much enjoyed week for us - many thanks, hope we can return someday.

Shamrock Cottage is a real gem so cosy and cute, a real find for a few relaxing days in beautiful countryside. It is so well fitted out there is nothing that as been overlooked the wood burning fire makes it feel so homely to return to after fantastic walks or drives to such pretty places Information pack left for guest is so comprehensive listing places of interest, and wonderful places to eat We found it so helpful because we had a dog with us ,it was just amazing to know of so many dog friendly places Special mention the Pheasant in the village, and a really old coaching in Cartmel the Cavendish Arms. Grange is a super spot with a butchers that as won an award for the best butchers in Britain We really loved the Hazelmere Cafe too, Everywhere we went the dog could come also which was great.I would recommend the cottage to anyone who wants a relaxing time in fantastic surroundings plus the booking and the follow up as been exceptional well done to everyone at Cumbria Cottages

Very cosy, lovely cottage. A wonderful place to spend our christmas. Interior thoughtfully and creatively put together - a 'home from home', delightful. Country furnishings attractive and comfortable. No washing machine or dishwasher, but not a problem for us. Head height fine apart from low doorways. Steep stairs. Great views from roof terrace and small garden from steep flight of steps outside back door. Quirky and quaint. We loved it and hope to return.

Shamrock cottage is clean, homely and has all of the modern comforts you need on holiday. At the back, it has a lovely view over fields and our daughter loved to run up and moo at the cows in the morning! The village itself is a perfect Lake District gem - quiet, relaxed and peaceful. Would definitely recommend.

We had a lovely stay at Shamrock Cottage.

Everything needed was supplied. Aftr a long day walking it was lovely to return to a comfortable, clean and cosy cottage.

On the warm evenings sitting up on the raised decking was a joy tho difficult access for some i\'m sure.

Surrounding towns of Cartmel & Grange had everything needed to eat in or out.

If you want to escape the hustle and bustle of staying in the more popular areas of the Lakes then you could not go far wrong choosing this cottage. Based in the South Lakes and a stone's throw from Cartmel in one direction and Grange over Sands in the other this is the ideal location for those wanting to get away from it all and enjoy the plentiful and varied walks this location has to offer. We stayed over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend and found lots of walks and places to visit during this time, whether it be walking the 20mins to the quaint little train station and travelling through to Lancaster or walking along the coast watching the dog jumping in and out of rock pools. The cottage is cosy and traditional and so warm that there was no need to light the log fire, except for effect. There are two local pubs though we prefered the Pheasant Inn both for food and the welcome provided to us and our dog. We will be going back to this cottage, which is a little gem.

Excellent location for this hidden part of the south lakes. The cottage is close to the big hitters but if like us, you want to be part of the area then cottages like Shamrock cottage are the place to be.

The local pubs were friendly and Grange over Sands,Flookborough and Cartmel had everything you could need.
