Steadings Cottage, Roundabouts Farm, Chesters, Jedburgh, Scottish Borders, TD9 8TH

We were looking for somewhere in the Bonchester Bridge area of the Borders as I go deer stalking on a local estate and wanted to combine a few outings with a break away with my wife and the dogs. The Steadings was recommended by the game keeper.

We arrived to find a beautiful, freshly baked cake and a nice bottle of wine provided by Sandra and Chris.

The cottage was stunning. Large, immaculate rooms and full central heating (a must in Oct!).

The double bedroom looked straight from a magazine and had loads of wardrobe storage as well as an essential alarm clock!

We didnt use the twin bedroom, but it too had lots of storage space and was immaculatley turned out.

Kitchen had every utensil and appliance you could wish for and would be more than ample for a large family or an extended stay. The living room was again super spacious with two sofas and two easy chairs. For evening entertainment there was a TV, digital free view, DVD and video player as well as a full stereo system with Cd and radio tuner.

Outside there is a large, secure, paddock for exercising the dogs, a private garden and a private driveway. We found the driveway to be a vital element for us as the gate can be shut after parking up, and the dogs are then secure and away from any traffic.

A large utility room is also accessed from outside and here is a freezer, a double stainless sink and a stainless table as well as ample coat hooks and storage racking. I found this room to be very handy for hanging my deer stalking clothing and kit to dry out and leave my muddy boots in too.

As well as being just 10 mins from where I stalk, the cottage is also only a few mins drive from some fantastic forest walks for the dogs. Hells Hole and Wauchope are essential for the dog lover. In 5 days, we did not see a single soul on any of our walks and we were out for several hours at a time!

The cottage has a multitude of leaflets and other info on the surrounding area's attractions as well as places further afield. We picked up some cracking tips from reading thru the info.

All in all, a fabulous place to stay, in a great location.
