The house is situated high on the hill with fantastic views of the Riviera coastline. Getting into the town on foot is fine using the railed steps leading down to an approx 8 min walk to the seafront etc. As long as you are "steady" it shouldn't be a problem. Coming back though, it is extremely arduous and unless you are healthy, fit and have stamina it would be an issue. The house is suitable for a small group of people with 2 comfortably sized bedrooms and a box room. The kitchen is equipped ok, though could possibly offer a tad more (there's no Pyrex dishes, bowls etc.), but this is no big deal. Lounge very pleasant, leather sofa and chair, dining table etc. ok sized TV. The house accepts pets and I brought along my 2 little dogs. Personally, I think the house is not really suitable due to the open front garden and the issue with the back terraces (see below). Not sure how a medium or bigger dog would cope. The open staircase was also an issue with my 2 tiny dogs. Now to the garden and this is an area of the house where I do have concern from a Health and Safety point of view. The three levels are small and the garden, top to bottom is very steep. The patio area accessed from the lounge has a small table with 4 chairs, no parasol and a garden box which is full of weeds. The 2nd level down (hand rail provided), is a small decked area and has an old rusty BBQ, empty pots and nothing else. The 3rd tier to the ground is accessed by just 2 steps to an overgrown ground plot (just a covering of old rotten bark)that has a locked back gate, another rusty BBQ and rubbish etc. I state overgrown as there are at least 4 fruit trees crammed into a small space that needs to be cleared. One of our party scraped his scalp on the branches of a tree on the first day. There's no night security light at the back of the house for this garden, and getting to the ground tier with no rail, security light or any warning of the 2 small steps is an accident waiting to happen.It is so concerning to me that I feel it needs to be reported before someone falls and suffers a serious break. All the descriptions above are from my point of view and other guests may not have any issues whatsoever, and I would like to say that all in all we had a lovely time in the Paignton area! Hopefully my comments will just make future guests aware.
