Hornshayne Farmhouse, Farway, Devon, EX24 6DH

Description of the self catering property

Hornshayne Farmhouse is on the edge of Woodbridge hamlet, a large, beautiful and imposing thatched farmhouse adjoining the owners cottage in the midst of this busy, working, 335 acre dairy/arable farm (you're welcome to help feed calves). Theres been a house here since Saxon times; gentrified in the 1700s, this farmhouse retains many original and fascinating features (still a salting cupboard and ceiling chamber in the kitchen).

Outside, plenty of open space (river - trout fishing, ponds, walks with outstanding views, and miles of unspoilt countryside) surrounding the very pretty garden (picnic table, gas barbecue, giant draughts, unfenced shallow stream; great play castle, Wendy house and sandpit, shared with owners) and games barn (quarter-sized billiard table, table tennis, karaoke machine, TV, fridge, loo). Within walking distance of the East Devon Way.

Inside, living room (living flame fire, TV/DVD/video) and enormous, hub-of-the-house kitchen/dining room (huge fireplace, oil-fired Rayburn, electric cooker, dishwasher, microwave, American-style fridge-freezer), both with original slate flag floor; tiny games room (TV/DVD, PlayStation); childrens playroom (toys); shower-room (suite); utility room (washing machine, tumble drier, sink).

Upstairs, five bedrooms (all with TV, two with DVD) on three levels:

Level 1: double with en suite bathroom (suite, shower over bath).

Level 2: family bedroom (6 foot zip-linked double or twin and single bed) with en suite shower-room (suite, two washbasins); two double (one with 6 foot zip-linked double or twin); and bathroom (suite with corner bath and separate shower).

Level 3 (attic): low lintel to very large master double (6 foot bed) with en suite bathroom (suite with roll-top bath plus hand-shower). Spring water. Professional catering and ready meals available. A comfortable, welcoming house with fascinating farm experiences for all generations.

We have just returned from a weeks holiday at Hornshayne Farm and have had a wonderful time. Our family of 3 sons, 3 daughters in laws and three grandchildren spent the weekend together in this lovely old farmhouse. When we walked in we found it very warm as there is an Aga in the kitchen and heating all through the house. There was a nice welcome of 2 bottles of wine and some lovely eggs fresh from the farm plus milk in the fridge. Andrew and Sally, the owners, were very welcoming and we were able to go around the farm whenever we liked. We watched the

Our second visit to Hornshayne Farm and it won't be our last. A beautiful, clean and well equipped farmhouse in idyllic countryside setting with wonderful views, walks and river fun. Ideal for large multi generation family groups and dog friendly. Run by very welcoming family and lots to be involved with on the working farm. Lots of family friendly things to see and do within 30 minute drive including beaches and the nearby town of Honiton is ideal for supermarket supplies and anything else you may need.

This delightful farmhouse offers an excellent holiday for an extended family group or groups of families. The outdoor space, with its wooden fort and slides and sandpit are ideal for children up to age 10. There is table tennis and a pool table for older children. The first day we just stayed on the property and enjoyed the outdoor space. Then you can go and look at the calves and chickens and have a conducted tour by the Hurford family.

We had a fantastic holiday in the beautiful setting of this Devon farm. The owners were very hospitable. The children really enjoyed being involved with farm life including giving milk to the cows and even seeing a calf being born. The facilities are great and full of character. A lovely week away.

We loved staying at Hornshayne farmhouse for the week. It was immaculate and clean and very well equipped for children.

The owners were lovely showed around the maternity pen and the baby calves which went down well with the children.

Would love to visit again, we are missing Maud already!
