Self Catering Reviews for Yans Barn

Yans Barn, Crediton, Devon,

Description of the holiday cottage

... 2 miles from Crediton heading for Tiverton and set back from the A3072, three cottages, an apartment and a converted barn, all very individually decorated and furnished and delightful. The two larger cottages (J164, J165) in the wing of a beautiful Grade II* listed medieval manor house, the third cottage (J166) and the apartment (J167) across the yard, and the newly converted barn (J168) beside the manor house, are set, with surrounding barns, in 20 acres of farmland. They share a large indoor heated swimming pool (40x 18x 4'4" deep) and a games room (skittles, table tennis, pool table; open 9am to 9pm) with kitchen area and loo. Large pond and stream in the grounds. Beautiful, peaceful countryside all round, fields to roam (adhering to the country code). Mile walk across fields to a pub.

Cottage Review: Just had our second holiday at Great Gutton - it was just as fabulous as they first. Highly recommend to all.

Cottage Review: We were made extremely welcome during our stay and this combined with very comfortable accommodation and beautiful scenery provided us with an excellent foundation for an enjoyable weeks holiday

Cottage Review: This was the first time I had stayed in a holiday cottage and I absolutely loved it. The owners were friendly and accommodating, and went far beyond what I would have ever expected in terms of their excellent hospitality. The dogs loved it too! We'll be going back!

Cottage Review: I have been going to Great Gutton farm and Yans Barn for 3 years now and it never fails to please. Natalie and Neil are simply the best hosts.

Cottage Review: This is the third time I've booked with Helpful Holidays and yet again I'm impressed. We had a lovely short break and are already thinking about the next!

Cottage Review: The property has been very nicely converted into a barn and does contain everything you need and more i. e. washing machine/tumble dryer etc. It's very spacious inside and tastefully decorated although in need of refreshing outside. Unfortunately this is where our compliments end. On arriving at the property one of dogs was viciously attacked by one of the owners dogs who did nothing to stop it. Our dog is a small 12 year old chihuahua cross who was tossed around like a toy by a much larger dog when he'd done nothing to provoke it. He has puncture wounds to both sides of his neck and is still not fully recovered and in some pain. This happened within minutes of arriving at Yan's barn, once we had found it that is which isn't easy as it's on a blind bend. No offer of veternary costs were offered. On deciding to stay we had little contact initially with the owners who quite correctly stayed away after our 'welcome'. The property is not really very close to anywhere but Crediton which is pleasant enough, but for any main roads or shops you need to head down to Exeter which is approximately 25 minutes away by car. On rainy days we found the bedroom of the property to smell quite badly of dogs. We also spent one whole day at the property and were quite concerned by its proximity to a fast and often busy road especially as it's on a bend and HGV's do pass very quickly. Despite the available parking we moved the car daily as every morning, no matter where you parked, it was covered in bird droppings. Our only other complaint would be that the pool, although a nice feature and indoor at that, was very cold. I would not recommend this property to any of my friends or family and I would never return. I would be exceptionally wary if you consider taking dogs.

Cottage Review: Our barn was gorgeous. The pictures really do not do it justice. The owners are lovely and left us a welcome pack. This place in particular is really suited for dogs especially dogs with bad recall as there are not that many animals on the fields and all the fields are fenced off securely. We spent the week walking with our 2 dogs (rotti and staffy), cooking food in the amazingly well equipped kitchen and drinking wine. It rained EVERY day but we still had a fantastic time and will be returning hopefully before the end of the year.
