Description of the self catering property
Underbecks holiday cottage in South Sands is a stunning large self catering holiday cottage near Salcombe in the pretty beach village of South Sands. As a large holiday cottage by the beach near Slacombe, Underbecks sleeps 12 people and has 5 bedrooms including two double bedrooms, two twin bedrooms and one bunk bedroom. If you are looking for a very high quality large holiday cottage by the beach in the Salcombe area of Devonm, Underbecks has to be on your list!
Underbecks is an exceptionally exciting detached house, brilliantly positioned on the hillside just above and overlooking South Sands sandy beach and with sensational views upstream to Salcombe, a mile away, from its good-sized enclosed terrace (loungers, table/chairs, sheltered barbecue area). The South Sands Hotel (excellent cosy bar and New England-style restaurant overlooking the beach) is within easy walking distance. The Tides Reach Hotel (under new management) leisure complex (200 yards away) has a full-sized snooker table, table tennis, a good restaurant and outdoor and indoor pool and jacuzzi for adults/teenagers (hourly rates). Boats can be hired locally.
Less than half mile to Overbecks with its fascinating and eccentric Victorian collection and beautiful gardens. Inside, Underbecks holiday cottage is spacious, full of light streaming in from many floor-to-ceiling windows and roof lights, decorated and furnished cleverly and comfortably, very stylish and modern. Steps (54) from the road down to the front door and into the large hall - where light streams down from roof windows on to two specially designed sails hanging on the side wall - and on to the large open-plan living room (TV/Sky/DVD/PVR/video) which draws you to the huge bay windows for the view.
Off it, a double bedroom with en suite bathroom (suite with separate power-shower); and another double (5' bed) with double aspect view and en suite bathroom (suite with separate power-shower). Both these bedrooms have excellent views. At the back - no view - are a twin bedroom and separate bathroom (suite, shower over bath), and a fine big twin bedroom (zip-linkable to 6' double) with en suite bathroom (suite with separate power-shower) and doors to very spacious, private decked balcony with loungers and sea glimpses.
There are stairs down from the hall to a large full-width-of-house open-plan room in Underbecks with a tiled floor. This comprises a second living room with floor-to-ceiling bay window leading to the terrace, a state of the art home cinema including plasma screen, Sky High Definition, digital music library and surround sound, Wii, and dining room with atmospheric overhead mood lighting, which in turn leads to the well fitted beech kitchen with island divider (freezer, microwave, dishwasher, double oven/halogen hob), a fine room full of sunshine and light.
Sliding doors in second living room and dining room open to the terrace. Washing machine and tumble drier in separate utility cupboard. At the back of the house on this floor is a bedroom decorated for children, with two sets of full-sized bunk beds and en suite shower-room (suite). 2 TVs/Sky/DVD/Blu-ray/video. PC provided. Professional catering available. A wonderful place.
