The Linhay, Lydford, Devon, EX20 4BW

Description of the holiday cottage

The Linhay holiday cottage near Lydford is a unique self catering holiday home set in a totally unspoilt area of Dartmoor with fantastic views. The Linhay is ideal for a couple (and a dog) looking for a very rural retreat on Dartmoor, romantic and great for a wlaking holiday on the moors, great for exploring Dartmoor and being away from the crowds.

The Linhay is one and a half miles from Lydford and 3 miles from Brentor, at the end of a private drive on a smallholding in a hidden Dartmoor valley, is this very comfortable apartment built over the owners detached garage within their moorland garden (direct access to the moor, great views towards Brentor church in one direction, Dartmoors highest tors in the other). You are welcome to wander the surrounding 20 acres of field, woodland and lake. Horses welcome, by arrangement (extra).

The Linhay on Dartmoor has a small enclosed patio garden (table/chairs) for your own private use. Inside The Linhay, bright, modern and easy. Fifteen steps up to big French windows to open-plan living/dining/kitchen (dishwasher, washer-drier, microwave, cooker with induction hob) with TV/DVD, woodburner, comfortable sofa bed and views past the owners house to the moor and sideways along the valley. Beyond this, smart bathroom (suite with roll-top bath plus hand-shower and separate shower).

Big, very pretty double bedroom (5 foot bed). Spring water. A really great base with friendly owners and with the highest and wildest Dartmoor tors within easy reach.

A beautiful spot and a wonderful rental apartment (though it somehow feels big enough to be a house).

I've rented a lot of holiday cottages and this is the best I have found - it was spotless, thoughtfully designed and comfortable throughout with some lovely little quirky design pieces thrown in.

As everyone has commented on the cream tea and eggs welcome - it was great but top marks with the dog treats and how did they know my dog's favourite brand?? I guess because Danielle and Dave are naturally intuitive - approachable, helpful and discreet - perfect.

We stayed at the Linhay in Lydford, Dartmoor Nat Park for our holiday. We had a fantastic time and were made very welcome by the owners by local treats. Also our dogs were not forgotten! The moors are just a few steps from the Linhay and the area has a lot to offer, with Lydford Gorge (NT) within walking distance, one of the highlights for ourselves. The cottage is very modern and comfertable and there was not anything we missed, everything we needed was there, even local maps etc were there. If you like peace and quiteness, this is a good place to stay. Kin

We were made to feel very welcome from our arrival with scones and cream and even the dog was left a treat. The property is beautifully renovated with homely accessories and you can walk straight from the property onto the moors. There is lots to do within a short drive and the nearest bigger town Tavistock is great for shopping and eating. This was one of our best holidays of all time as its such a peaceful part of the world. I would definately recommend!
