| Cottage Review:
After struggling with the key safe we finally got the key. On opening the door we were immediately met with the most overpowering foisty damp smell - it didn't smell clean at all. The upstairs didn't smell pleasant but downstairs the carpet felt damp to walk on. Despite various items that were new being placed throughout the property making the cottage look presentable on photographs, the cottage was not clean. Various plug ins and pot pouri bags were placed to try and mask the smell. The windows were filthy and the property looked like it had not recently been cleaned. The towels and bedding had the same horrible foisty smell on them as the downstairs carpet - a smell which hits you as you get half way down the stairs. I am shocked that no-one has reported the smell. Interestingly on researching the property more widely on our return home, it appears to have been advertised previously onba different site, where reviews of cleanliness and owner contact was poor, had we have known this we wouldn't have booked. Had we not booked activities and a meal in Hawes, we would have never stayed the second night. We slept upstairs on the sofa the second night as we could not bear the dirt and smell downstairs, and left the property at 6am on Sunday morning. We posted the keys through the letterbox as the lockbox wouldn't now open. This is the worst accommodation we've ever stayed in and do not feel it warrants the price we paid. We have never complained or given a bad review about anywhere we've stayed before, but this was a actually a traumatic experience |
