Description of the holiday cottage

Cullaford Cottage is a thatched holiday cottage half a mile from Scorriton in Devon, in the tiny hamlet of Combe through which the river Mardle meanders to the river Dart. Cullaford Cottage is a stunning detached cottage, once home to the author Mary Wesley and still a haven from the rush of the modern world. Across the little used single-track lane, a small enclosed orchard with picnic bench and a bluebell wood (deer, kingfishers) with the river running along one side.

Behind Cullaford Cottage, an enclosed lawned garden plus cobbled and paved terrace (table/chairs). Inside Cullaford Cottage, pared back and elegant with pale wood and stone floors, soothing white palette and original art. Step up from the garden into kitchen/dining room, a magnificent oak-framed extension, fully glazed on two sides with the sleek kitchen (dishwasher, larder fridge) along the length.

Eight shallow steps down to snug living room (TV/DVD/Blu-ray) with woodburner. Second living room with chaise longue and woodburner, offering space for reading or writing. Utility room (washing machine, tumble drier, American-style fridge-freezer, sink) and bathroom (suite with hipbath). Upstairs at Cullaford Cottage, there are two bedrooms, both simply furnished an airy double bedroom with pitched ceiling, views over the garden and shower-room (suite) up 7 steps, and a twin tucked under the eaves, plus smart bathroom (suite with separate shower). Spring water.

Cottage Review:   I stayed here in August 2017. The cottage is absolutely beautiful and so peaceful and quiet.. If you want a quiet relaxing place then this is certainly the place to go

Cottage Review:   We stayed here for 4 nights for a short getaway in February, a couple with one dog. The cottage was everything it was described as by the owners, and more. There was so much space, and thanks to the lovely underfloor heating all the rooms were warm all the time. On arrival the cottage was clean and warm and there was a welcoming cake for us on the table. The location is excellent for visiting nearby Dartmoor and many local attractions, but we mainly stayed in the cottage and walked locally. There is a large garden and a larger orchard with the river Mardle
