Chapel Cottage, Welcombe, Devon, EX39 6HG

Description of the holiday cottage

Chapel Cottage in Welcombe is 1 1/2 miles up from Welcombe Mouth, a prettily furnished cottage attached to an old chapel in the tiny epicentre of Welcombe village, 100 yards from its ancient thatched pub.

For the reasonably fit, the cove is a pleasant valley walk downhill (parking by the beach). Access Chapel Cottage through small, neat, enclosed garden (bench) and down 4 steps (no handrail) to an open porch. Hall for coats/boots; big farmhouse-style fitted kitchen/dining room (dishwasher, microwave, electric cooker) with Rayburn (for central heating only) and beams, and utility room with washing machine, tumble drier and fridge-freezer; living room with TV/DVD/video, laminate floor and woodburner.

From hall, stairs (stairgate) up to four bedrooms (beds with footboards) two double, and two twin; bathroom (suite plus hand-shower) and shower-room (suite). Chapel Cottage is a warm, cosy cottage within easy reach of an excellent pub.

Cottage Review:

We have just returned from a fantastic trip to Welcombe. The cottage was everything we had hoped for and more. Exceptionally clean and tidy throughout with all the amenities needed for our family. We didn?t have the best weather but the cottage was so lovely that we were happy to spend our time cooking with occasional trips to the local pub. There are also beautiful beach walks right on the doorstep. All in all a faultless country cottage in a perfect location for a staycation!

Another fantastic stay at this beautiful cottage! My family loved our cosy and very comfortable stay at Chapel Cottage. The cottage is so well-equipped and we always find everything we need here for a fabulous stay. The location is stunning offering great walks down to the beach which the children loved. There is lots to explore in the area around Welcombe. The Smithy Inn is highly recommended and just a few metres from the cottage. We will definitely be back!

Stayed here with a group of friends for a relaxing week. Everything about our stay was great, the cottage was clean, cosy and beautifully decorated. The walk down to the beach is a must and the pub next door is highly recommended for a meal and a pint. Thank you very much, we will be back.

Cottage Review:

Cannot recommend this cottage enough, not only is the location perfect for some fantastic walks and beaches but the cottage was the perfect retreat for my group of 6 friends.

The cottage itself is spotlessly clean and beautifully

decorated with beautiful soft furnishings which give it a quirky/vintage feel. (I have stolen some ideas for my own home!!) The attention to detail was second to none with a welcome tray of scones and homemade jam on arrival.

The smithy inn opposite is just a few steps away and serves great food and drink; lovely landlord and lad

Cottage Review:

What appeared to be a beautiful cottage was full of problems. We stayed for a week in August and were quite pleased with how pretty the cottage was....until we went inside. The kitchen is dirty and quite honestly, needs to be ripped out and replaced, ovens dirty, fridge in kitchen actually yellowed and glasses and cutlery needed more than to be put through the dishwasher. Some of the glasses actually had paint fingerprints on them as though they had been used for cleaning brushes. We had to borrow glasses from the pub and buy our own, because we didn't want

Cottage Review:

We stayed with our two dogs. We have loved staying here. So close to the lovely pub but not bothered by people coming and going. The cottage is great and having an enclosed garden meant peace of mind for the dogs. We found some great walks and once on the A39 there are loads of places to drive to.

Cottage Review:

We are currently staying at Chapel Cottage and are thrilled with this little gem of vintage cottage charm. The cottage is beautifully situated in a tiny village with pub and pottery next door, and stunning rocky beach a mile walk away. The cottage is quaint and comfy, yet spacious enough for eight people to stay without being on top of each other. The vintage touches of original Rayburn, crockery, slate floors, handmade upholstery, and decor is very well thought out, and add to the charm. The cottage was spotless and well maintained on arrival, and little garden very neat and tidy. The house is well equipped with everything you need for a relaxin holiday. An ideal spot to use as a walking base to explore the rugged coastline, or simply to relax in the sunny garden, cosy lounge, or pub next door!
