This cottage was just perfect for our needs. There was my husband & myself, my daughter & Son in law & 2 Grandchildren ages 3 & 6 months. it is a 3 bed cottage with a large loungs, dining room & big kitchen which was fully equiped with everything that you would need. there was also a downstairs toilet & utility room which was very handy. upstairs there are 3 good bedrooms and everyone in the party said how comfortable all the beds were. all in all it was one of the better property's that we have stayed in and value for money

Cottage Review:

Myself and my partner stayed at the Avoncroft cottage for 1 week in October 2011, I found the cottage to be excellent value for money. The cottage was very well equipt and had much more than you would normally find in a holiday cottage, everything in the cottage was of a high standard from the furniture right down to the kitchen pots and pans. The advantage of the garage was great and provided a secure space to store the car overnight. The secure outside space was great too as we had our dogs with us and due to the secure garden we didn't have to worry about the dogs getting out onto the road so this makes this cottage not only ideal for dogs but also for children. The cottage is in an excellent position, just yards away from an excellent pub (the Hare and Hounds) which serves fantastic food and is only a short drive away from Whitby town centre. I will definatly be staying at the Avoncroft again in the the future.

Very good cottage lots of space, comfortable and well equipped. Benefits off road parking with a very good size garage. Just off main road to Whitby in small village which has a very good pub but no shop. Walks and cycle hire from the door and very good location for Whitby and Moors.

Large house with generous size rooms - easily accommodated 2 couples and a 2yr old and we all had our own space. The house was equipped to an excellent standard - absolutely everything thought of. Everything spotlessly clean. Very comfortable lounge suite - not at all the usual holiday put you on. I would suggest you take a couple of your own towels as even though towels are provided, we got through them and although there is a washing machine you don\'t want to be waiting for the towels to dry. Great location for getting to local resorts. On the road leading to Robin Hoods Bay but not noisy. Book with confidence - you will not be disappointed.

We stayed for one week at Avoncroft and overall found the accomodation to be most agreeable. The location of the cottage couldn't be better, with Whitby only 5 minutes by car and Robin Hoods bay even closer. There are also many walks to be had around the cottage location and the pub opposite is my new favourite with very good pub style food and child friendly atmosphere. Overall 10/10.

very well appointed, comfortable cottage and very spacious. well located for whitby and surrounding area and the bus stop came in very handy as parking in whitby and scarborough would have been difficult.

There was everything we needed in the kitchen, comfy beds and sofas, constant hot water.

my only problems, which are only small ones...the freeview/dvd player did not work, informed the owner who knew about it, so we only had 5 channels to watch (the weather wasn't good). and the cleaning (done by a cleaning company i think) there was dust on the windowsill, in which I wrote 'clean me' with my finger. The towels provided in the bedrooms are not big enough so i would take a couple of spare. the double room could do with a king size quilt on it. that's it really apart from the owner could do with replacing the dvd/freeview

Lovely clean house, with good facilities. In an ideal place for exploring Robin Hoods Bay & Whitby. We had a lovely week, whih was made even better by the fact we had alovely house to go to at the end of the day. Gary the owner is also kind and helpful if any assistance is needed. We would definitely go again.

This is our second visit to Avoncroft and again we were not disappointed. We travelled from Grimsby and the roads were slow after all the bad weather but when we arrived the cottage was welcoming and warm. As usual everything was spic and span and spotlessly clean. We were there for my broterh in laws birthday and we made him a champagne breakfast on Saturday morning, the cottages dining room making for a lovely setting for our feast. We ventured into Whitby on Saturday taking a leisurely walk (about an hour) returning later that afternoon to go to the Hare and Hounds in the village for what we can only describe as a top class meal. Again the bedrooms in the cottage were comfortable and cosy and all in all we have had another lovely stay.

This property was huge - plenty of space for us all without being under one anothers feet. Warm and welcoming, decorated and furnished to a high standard with everything thought of. Plenty of off road parking which was advantageous due to property being situated on a busy corner. Comfortable pub just across the road and nearest shop a short drive away.

Excellent property; well situated. Very well equiped. No garden so dog had to be walked a 100 yards or so up the road to do it's business but as we were there a walking holiday it made no difference. The pub (Hare & Hounds) is really good. Easy cycle/walkway to Robin Hoods Bay takes about an hour. Great food at the top of the hill there in the Victoria Hotel with a lovely view across the bay. No teapot cosey! [Added at Editor's discretion since it appears to be a helpful review and the reviewer has been authenticated]

Very well equipped and well situated for getting around North Yorshire. Clean, Bright and airy. A few repairs need doing though, nothing major (broken wardrobe handle, hot wate tap that wouldn't turn off properly) but would just create the impression that the owners care. Chose this property because they take dogs, unfortunately we have small dogs so they could get out through the fence straight onto road.

Owner response:
The owners live 140 miles away and cannot check the cottage every weekend. We rely upon the cleaners and the guest themselves to report any damages and faults. We only became aware of the broken wardrobe handle and dripping tap when we visited in July - we fixed them the same day. This week the guests reported a broken toaster plug and toilet seat - these were fixed within 24 hours by our handyman.

We take the maintenance of Avoncroft very seriously. We are assessed every year by "Enjoy England", and have been awarded 4 stars. We also have a comprehensive emergency PropertyCare service in place that will repair any faults and breakages to the heating, plumbing, electrics and drains within 24hours.

The cottage is really clean and tidy and very well decorated. All the rooms are very bright and spacious. The kitchen has everything you need, a real home from home. In the downstairs bathroom is a washing machine which I found very useful. I like the separate dining room and the lounge is very comfortable. The bedrooms are also bright and spacious - the furniture is in very good condition - looks nearly new. All the bed linen is clean and fresh, the beds are very comfortable as well. A really clean and bright airy house with lots of space. All the rooms are spacious and have everything you need. The kitchen is well equipped with all the utensils to cook just about any type of meal, it even has a wok. The shower is powerful and the bathroom is lovely and clean. All the furnitue in the house seems to be new, beds are very comfortable and linen is lovely and fresh. Its literally a 5 minute drive into Whitby. The Hare and Hounds Pub is just across the road, 2 minute walk and the food is delicious and not over priced, you really need to book though as they are busy every night.
