Cottage Review:

Stayed here with family of 3 adults, 2 children and 3 dogs for a week. It is an absolute stunning place to stay and had more than enough room for us all, the cottage is spacious, well appointed and I had the best nights sleep I?ve had in years, the beds are that good. Whilst you could easily spend your time here never leaving the front door, the walks just around the farm area are amazing and you see different things every time, there?s plenty to do around the area with trips to High Force and Hamsterley Forest highly recommended. The hosts at the cottage are so friendly and very knowledgeable about the area and the sights in it. The children were thrilled to see the sheep being brought onto the farm. Added bonuses are the large field for the dogs to play in and the playground for the children. Honestly, do yourselves a huge favour and recharge your batteries here!!

Cottage Review:

A lovely cottage set in farmland with open views, ‘The Cote’ is a farm building conversion done very tastefully and with craftsmanship so you feel from entry into the spacious hallway that you are going to be in high quality surroundings.

Towels and bedding were included (we weren’t expecting towels!) as was power, hot water and heating, if required, all supplied via solar and ground source facilities. We didn’t have to worry about it as heating is all underfloor controlled by numerous thermostats through the premises.

The cottage is on a working sheep farm and the proprietor lives in an adjacent property so is handy for help and enquiries. We found everyone exceptionally friendly and helpful. This was true not only of the family but also of the communities and locations we visited as far apart as Alnwick, Durham and Beamish. Barnard Castle is a lovely old town, amazingly dog friendly and has the best ice cream we have tasted in years from Gelato Lusso (no promotion or payment!)

We really want to go back as there’s a lot more to explore round about.

Many thanks to the John and Ken and their family.

We stayed in the Côte for 3 weks whilst we searched for a property to purchase. The accommodation was excellent with 3 bathroom a laundry room. We made use of the extra bedrooms when oursons came for a weekend.

Having lived in the area some 15 years ago we knew local attractions etc. One new attraction at Shildon the National Railway Museum is free and we'll worth a visit.

The owners were helpful without being intrusive. We would recommend this Cottage to anybody looking for a excellent well equipped Cottage in wonderful surroundings.

Very good place to stay. The owners were very helpful with arrangements and everything was exactly as we expected. Nice countryside setting, with some strolls straight from the door. Staindrop itself is a lovely village, with some nice shops/eateries.

The Cote is an attractive stone building set on a farm with great views out of all windows. The facilities are of high standard with the water from all taps being extremely hot, the underfloor heating also provides you with nice warm feet after a day out in the country, especially during the winter! The kitchen is well proportioned with ample cutlery and crockery. The wooden beams give it a nice "oldy" feel whilst still appearing quite modern. Beds are very comfortable and warm.
