Loch View, Colvend, Dalbeattie, Dumfries and Galloway, DG5 4QD

Description of the self catering

Loch View is situated on the edge of the seaside village of Rockcliffe, this character property overlooking White Loch to the front and rolling Galloway countryside to the rear offers an ideal holiday home from which to explore the Solway coastline and surrounding area. Colvend is a small village with its own shop, cafe and Tea Room situated on the scenic Colvend coast. Its close proximity to the sailing village of Kippford with its popular waterfront pub and the conservation village of Rockcliffe with its pretty beach and rock pools, tea room and hotel make it a popular destination. The area is also known as The Scottish Riviera due to the influence of the Gulf Stream creating a mild climate. The result of this are many open gardens and nurseries. Wonderful forest, coastal and Loch side walks are plentiful in the area and direct walking or cycling access to Dalbeattie Forest one of the 7 Stanes mountain biking tracks from the front door. The bird reserves of Merse Head and Caerlaverlock are close by along with the Red Kite Feeding Station at Loch Ken. Nearby is Colvend Golf Course and the sweeping sandy beach at Sandyhills. The food town of Castle Douglas is a short drive away and the National Trust property Threave Gardens is a lovely day out as is Kirkcudbright with its delightful harbour and Art galleries.

This is a lovely cottage with great facilities and attention to detail.Thoughtful welcome with the owners leaving eggs, milk and a delicious ginger cake for us and some biscuits for our dog. Tastefully decorated throughout, exceptionally clean, with a large well equiped kitchen/diner, cosy lounge and the most comfortable bed Ive slept in. Nice to wake up to cows at the window. Pretty and secluded garden with great views of surrounding countryside. Situated a mile and half from stunning Rockcliffe and a short walk from the village shop. A perfect place to tour the Solway Firth or just relax and enjoy the scenery and walks.

Loch View Cottage is outstanding. It really was a home from home, with every comfort and amenity you could wish for and more. Ideally situated for touring the area and beyond. Great views over the loch and the beach at Rockcliffe nearby is lovely. The local shop just yards away has everything you need foodwise and there's a large Tesco at Castle Douglas if you need a bit more.

We were blessed with some smashing weather as well and were able to get out and about to some lovely places and stunning scenery. We highly recommend Loch View cottage to anyone looking for self-catering accommodation in the area.

Should we visit the Dumfries and Galloway area of Scotland again we will be sure to return to Loch View.

Beautiful cottage with everything you can possibly want. The open plan kitchen and big table makes it a wonderful space. I just loved the light and the views from the bedroom are amazing.

Cottage Review:

This traditional granite cottage is a wonderful retreat easily accessible on the Solway coast. Excellent parking for two cars with a gated garden suitable for a well behaved dog. This was our second visit within a year! Instantly homely, warmed throughout by the down stairs under floor heating, this was as a special attraction in the mornings, after two very wet days, and for our dog. Excellent standard of kitchen equipment, entertainment provision and more than sufficient soft fluffy towels coupled with soaps and shower gels provided in the two bathrooms (ideal for couples). A welcome basket with traditional Scottish fare was a welcome sight, as was a dog towel, biscuits and bowl for our use whilst staying. Constant hot water, ample storage, attentive, caring owners and very comfortable beds made our New Year a very memorable occasion.

Make up of party:  Our party was 5 - two couples sharing with our elderly labrador dog !

This holiday cottage is fantastic. The photographs do not do the quality of the finish, justice. We spent Christmas at the cottage and everything we could possibly need was there - even roasting tins and baking trays! The owners had gone out of their way to make the cottage festive. The quality of the bedding, towels etc was excellent and little details like soap and shower gels etc made it easy to settle in if you are traveling from a distance. the heating was excellent and even though it was winter time we were toasty inside.

The owners really have made this cottage perfect!!

Cottage Review: 3rd comment: The cottage was gorgeous. It was spotless and had every convenience. The owners had left us a welcome pack with milk, wine, and a starter fuel pack for the wood burning stove. It had good off road parking. It was in an ideal location for peace and quiet but close to a small shop that supplied most essential items.

Cottage Review: Second visit to this fabulous cottage. Can’t sing it’s praises enough (previous visit May 2010). Addition of lovely leather sofa in the kitchen/family area & many thoughtful touches throughout. Immaculate & spotless, so light & airy. wonderful friendly owners. Highly recommend. Awesome area to visit.
