Little Byre, 6 Railway Terrace, Baggrow, Aspatria, Cumbria, CA7

Description of the holiday cottage

Little Byre is a 2 bedroom charming nineteenth century character cottage nestled in quiet hamlet of pretty Baggrow Village in north Cumbria, just outside the Lake District National Park. An ideal base to explore beauty of Lake District and Cumbrian coast which are all within easy reach. Despite Little Byre's sleepy location, within approximately 30 minutes by car, you can be in Carlisle, Whitehaven and Workington, with the attractions of Keswick and Cockermouth even closer, not to mention the lovely Solway coast. Downstairs there is a living room/dining area and a well equipped kitchen. The living room has a large flat-screen TV, DVD and CD player. Quality oak furniture and soft leather furnishings complement the charm of this traditional Cumbrian cottage. There is a dining table which will comfortably seat four people. A cast-iron, living flame gas fire is very welcome on those cooler evenings, along with a range of books, games and jigsaws for you to while away the hours. The kitchen is fully equipped for all your needs. It includes an electric cooker, microwave, fridge/freezer, and a washing machine plus a fantastic view across the fields towards Skiddaw. With such a view, washing the dishes becomes a pleasure rather than a chore. Upstairs, there are two bedrooms and bathroom. The master bedroom is beautifully fitted out with solid ash furniture. The king-size bed has sumptuous cream and red bedding – and a teddy if you forget your own. The large wardrobe and six-drawer dresser provides ample storage for all your clothes. The rear bedroom with its pine furniture also enjoys beautiful views across the Caldbeck fells towards Skiddaw. It can accommodate 1 or 2 people. Below the comfortable single bed, there is another full-size bed that can be pulled out and set at right angles to accommodate an extra guest. The family bathroom has a bath (with shower over), shaving socket and plenty of fluffy white towels. Outside, a small, south-facing, enclosed terrace with patio table and chairs provides a lovely place to relax and enjoy the view.

Best Features

Little Byre is a haven of peace and tranquility, surrounded by the Northern Lakes and Fells. It enjoys wonderful uninterrupted views across open countryside south to Skiddaw and nearby Carrock fells, views that can be further explored on walks from the door. Little Byre has been furnished to the highest of standards and we know that you will enjoy every moment of your stay here. Although cosy, the cottage is quite spacious inside. It has full gas central heating and double-glazed windows. We also service Little Byre ourselves to ensure that it is always immaculate for our guests. Included in the rent is all fuel, bed linen, towels, household products such as washing up liquid, loo rolls etc and a complimentary bottle of wine. It is an ideal location to enjoy all the northern Lake District has to offer whilst providing a perfect place to get away from it all!

Beautiful cottage, in lovely location. The cottage had everything we needed for our stay and felt like a home-from-home. The owners did everything they could to accomodate us and our baby making sure we had everything we needed for our stay. They neighbours were lovely and very friendly. Lots of information in the cottage about places to visit in the local area. It was our first holiday with our 9 month old baby and was very special spending it here.

A truly fab gem of a place! I went their for my twenty first birthday to get away from the city and oh boy was I glad, if you prefer peace, quiet and a low population of people you've found the right cottage! A beautifully decorated clean cottage with all the mod cons and comforts you need always a warm welcome and a lovely helpful owner. A quiet location away from the bustle and traffic of the lake district but within a car journey of lots of fab spots I will be back :)

Make up of party:  Two best friends sick of the city! Fab place for the family or couples or friends!

This is the best self-catering accommodation we have stayed in. It was spotless and had all mod cons as well as basics in the cupboard like salt and pepper, oil and tea. It has many personal touches and feels like home from home without the clinical feel of some self-catering rentals. It was very cosy even in January when it was really cold outside. The views across to Skiddaw are fantastic and the sky is constantly changing. There is a pub if you want to meet the locals but they don't serve food. We recommend the Sun at Bassenthwaite village for meals.

Little Byre was a lovely cottage. it was spotlessly clean with everything that makes a holday cottage welcoming ... and much more. The cottage felt homely and very comfortable - perfect to return to after a days walking. We really enjoyed our stay at Little Byre and highly recommend it.

We stayed at little Byre for a last minute weekend in the Lakes. The cottage is furnished to an excellent standard and has all the comforts of home. The decoration is modern and tasteful, everything is spotless and clean and it all looks brand new. The cottage is probably best suited to no more than 3 people but can accommodate 4, it's ery cosy and compact. There were some lovely welcoming touches such as a bottle of wine and some lovely biscuits, tea, coffee and milk provided. The location is very good for Keswick and surrounding areas and the views from the cottage out the back are great.

We were really impressed by the thoughtfulness of the owners Margaret and Mark. The cottage where we stayed "Little Byre" was a real home from home. Margaret really did think of everything. The cottage was so clean and beautifully decorated. It felt as though Little Byre was brand new. We felt as though we were the first people to stay there. We cannot recommend Little Byre enough.

We enjoyed our stay at Little Byre very much. The cottage is very clean, comfortable and exceptionally well equipped. Whatever I had forgotten to pack it was there. It was great that Margaret had all the cleaning products on hand and therefore you don't have to bring the kitchen sink with you when you visit! A combi boiler supplies instant hot water a must after a hard days walking/activities.

The children enjoyed the communal grassed area to the rear of the patio and the selection of board games and DVD's was apprectiated. A truly delightful cottage in a quiet setting providing an excellent base to visit the whole of the Lake District.

A very well equipped cottage that lives up to its publicity, close to nearby towns in west Cumbria and the railway at Aspatria for trips to Ravenglass for the steam railway. The Lake District not too far away either.

Cottage Review:

This is a wonderful, welcoming cottage, every thing has been done to make certain you enjoy your stay. I explained that I was taking my mum who is in her 86 year and they even provided a heated under blanket and hot water bottles, which we didn't need at all. The people in the village very friendly and willing to help. A very good area, easy access to places to explore. If you want a good day out try Hutton in the Forest, roughly 6 miles north of Penrith but would reccomend going cross country and coming in from the north, wonderful scenery.

We will certainly be going back, we have stayed in quite a few cottages , which have all been very good but this one scored 101%.
