Brigg House, Coniston, Cumbria,

Description of the holiday cottage

This Fine detached house offers the perfect venue for families and friends to gather for holidays, celebration and reunion, set close to one of our most beautiful lakes and perfect for striking out on hikes and walks. Torver lies about two miles south of Coniston village on the west side of Coniston Water. Popular as a base for both high and low level walking, there are pathways to The Old Man for a big climb, tracks across Torver Common and paths that lead down to the lake where you can explore and swim in summer.

Booked this property months ago. My friend who booked it for us all (party of 6) took a call today from the owners who said that we could no longer stay as they are having work done and it won’t be ready in time. A WEEK BEFORE we go. My friend asked for some kind of small compensation for the inconvenience but was told no. Not even an offer to pay for the booking fee that we will have to pay again when/if we find a property in time. If you are booked here then I would suggest you contact them to make sure you won’t be left in the lurch a week before your holiday. Unfortunately as we are not staying there now I have to put poor for all options below.

Brigg House exterior is in need of painting and some repairs to the building as well as tidying of grounds and garden. The garden furniture was of insufficient quantity for a property that sleeps 10 and was old and shabby. Inside, some cupboards and other surfaces in the small galley kitchen were not clean. Also some parts of the downstairs bathroom were not properly cleaned.

The bedrooms have been modernised and a new bathroom added upstairs. However, this bathroom appears to have been created from two en-suite shower rooms, so although the property is advertised as having five en-suite bedrooms this is not in fact the case.

Brigg House is well located being only a couple of miles from Coniston Village. The small village of Torver with The Wilson’s Arms pub and small deli, which also serves coffee, is only a few minutes walk away along the disused railway. There are walks from the door to both the lake and the fells, including The Old Man of Coniston.
