Cottage Review:

The cottage is very tired inside but if modernised would loose the cottage feeling, It didnt take long to get warm and the initial fuel lasted 3 days, well 3 nights as we were roaming in the day around the lovely estate and walking to Port Patrick etc. Charlie the dog enjoyed his adventure but could not let him off his lead due to the thousands of pheasants around, which was nice to see, we also saw deer in the woods. It was a very relaxful time at the cottage we only heard the quad bike a couple of times a day when the game keeper was feeding the pheasants. Would go back again

Cottage Review:

We booked this cottage as I liked the idea of having the freedom of the estate (which also leads down to a lovely cove). It doesn't appear on any agency website and I'm not surprised, I just don't think an agency would take it on. It was very poorly equipped and was like stepping back into the early 1970's as you walked through the door.

The furniture in the lounge was spindly uncomfortable and inadequate. The weather whilst we were there wasn't too bad for May but the place was cold and damp and we just couldn't keep warm. The heating is from an old inefficient coal fire with a back boiler, this heats a few radiators but needs to be fed constantly. We got a free basket of logs and a small supply of coal which lasted for one evening then the rest is at cost. This seems such a mean way of doing things especially as there were lots of felled trees around which lay rotting. There were also a few storage heaters which again were ancient and inefficient and as the electricity was metered this cost extra too.

Bed linen and towels were extra also and cost £25 fot two people. So what with extra for fuel, electricity and linen we could have rented a relatively luxurious place nearby.

We wished we had!

Cottage Review:

I was reading the review of Blair cottage. This is where I spent a happy childhood with my aunt and uncle who lived in the cottage with their two boys, Colin, Tommy and daughter Maureen. All my childhood memories are in that cottage. There was only a black range for heating and cooking. Oil lamps. A water pump, no toilet etc. In the mornings after breakfast we could run down a path straight to the Sandeel bay. There was never anyone else at the shore. Sometimes my cousin and me would hop on her bike and go whizzing down the private road from the cottage, through the gate at old Alexanders Cottage and straight on through the golf course down to the Port. Happy happy times. Reading about the cottage now, it is all modern, except from the outside it looks just the same to me. I still go every chance I get to Porpatrick and maybe one day I will book up to stay in Blair Cottage.
