Holiday Cottage Reviews for Ardlarach Lodge

Ardlarach Lodge, Isle of Luing, Ardlarach, Oban, Argyll and Bute, PA34 4TZ

Description of the self catering

Luxurious 5 Star Ardlarach Lodge, situated in one of the most stunning positions in Scotland looking down the Sound of Luing and westward to the beautiful Isles of Scarba and Lunga. Only 2 ½ hours from Glasgow airport, and ½ hour south of Oban, it makes it one of the most accessible islands on the west coast and the ferry runs every half hour, which is very civilised! The Lodge, which was the former head shepherd's house, has had a total make over. It is situated on a busy working farm but with no loss to the peaceful tranquillity that is offered on this most beautiful island.

Best Features

Ardlarach Lodge has 4 bedrooms: the Master bedroom has a superking bed facing the window and glorious views beyond and an en-suite shower room. There is a twin room upstairs that has the family bathroom beside it, again the southern views.

Downstairs there is a King size double room and a single bedroom with a pull out bed, both face north up the expanse of the Island, very rural and bucolic. Both are wheelchair friendly, and are carpeted. They share a wet room.

The sitting room is open plan with the stairs and porch, and has a multi-burning stove. There are oak floors and tiles with underfloor heating throughout downstairs.

The dining room has a large oak table that sits in front of one of the most panoramic window views ever to be found.

The kitchen has all the mod cons. There is a large range cooker, gas on top electric below, an American fridge freezer with cold water and ice machine, the usual dishwasher/microwaves/ washer machine/dryer.

There is a "lean to" at the back door fitted with pegs for wet jackets and plenty room for muddy wellies, also good for a wet-day smoke!

Sleeps: from 2 to 7

Pets: No

Cottage Review: This is one of the best holiday homes we've stayed in. It is beautifully equipped and furnished, very comfortable, and with views to die for! The location is perfect if you're looking for peace and quiet and great walks, and the house has books, DVDs and wifi for curling up in the sun room or by the fire for lazy days and evenings.
We have serious cooks in our party who loved the kitchen - very unusually for a rental home, there was nothing we could think of that was missing from the equipment list, which made it a real pleasure to cook in.
Plan ahead with plenty of supplies - its not a place for those who want to be able to nip out to the shops - which is definitely a plus point. There is lots of useful information in the house, including where to find the most fantastic sea food, straight from the fisherman. We had some of the best oysters and scallops we've ever tasted.
We were really impressed with the thought that has gone into every aspect of the house. It is beautifully and very tastefully furnished, but also very practical, which makes it a very relaxing place to stay. We've already got our booking in for next year . . . .

Cottage Review: We have had such a wonderful holiday at Ardlarach Lodge, I felt compelled to join TripAdvisor and leave a review!

This lodge looked very appealing on the website but when we arrived, it far exceeded our expectations. It is light, bright and warm and comfortable (super comfy beds) with everything you need for a perfect holiday. Thoughtfully appointed with good furniture, tasteful decor and a well equipped kitchen. We were there with children and grandparents and were impressed at how much room there was for everyone. There was plenty of space to be together but also to do our own thing. We had some lovely family evenings around the dining table and in the cosy, sitting room. Our favourite place to sit was in the gorgeous sun room looking down with Sound of Luing to breathtaking sunsets.
The island of Luing is charming and completely unspoiled with innumerable walks and stunning views across land, shores and sea. We saw seals, dolphins and a sea eagle.
If you want top-notch self-catering accommodation, peace, tranquility in a beautiful, natural, Scottish landscape look no further.

Cottage Review: Our stay here exceeded our expectations. The house was beautiful and comfortable and the views were amazing. We were blessed with the weather which meant we spent a lot of time exploring the countryside and watching the local wildlife which included hares, bats and seals. Our hosts were very friendly and welcoming. They gave us a true tase of island life. As foodies we spent a great deal of time in the kitchen and can verify that it was very well equipped. A real gem overall.
