Holiday Cottage Reviews for 7 Proctor's Row

7 Proctor's Row, Proctor's Row, WIGTON, Cumbria, CH64 1SE

Description of the self catering

7 Proctor's Row is a ‘listed’ Georgian building of the late 1700’s. It overlooks the Parish Church in the central conservation area of this busy market town. All that is necessary for life is within a few hundred yards on the flat. The house has a lounge with an open fire, cottage suite, a kitchen/diner with a gas and solid fuel stove, two bedrooms: one with a double bed, the other with two bunk beds.

Best Features

The property’s distinctiveness is in its retaining, as much as possible, its original Georgian features. And where renewal is needed this is done in line with listed building best practice. The furniture also largely respects the character of the property. Somebody once complained that it looked as if it came from a junk shop - he wasn’t entirely accurate, failing to recognised that virtually all of of the bedroom furniture is solid oak with one piece of distinctive McKintosh (British Arts and Crafts movement) style. Colloquially you could say it is a authentic experience of a small 18th Century town dwelling, rather than an IKEA show room. (Though you could have fun spotting the IKEA pieces!) This has made for a cosy cottage full of character.

Lovely cottage conveniently located in quiet part of Wigton, close to all amenities. The owners are very friendly and helpful, the accommodation was comfortable and it was great value for money. We will definitely be back.

Cottage Review:

The cottage is very affordable and was comfortable for our family of three, with many nice touches to the property, best of all was the open fireplace in the lounge with initial stack of coal, pine cones and firelighters, enabling us to take the chill off in the evenings. The neighbours are friendly, there is a brand new Co-Op store within easy walking distance and most types of take-away need are fully catered for in the town! The property itself is small but comfortable with a pleasant outlook over the local church and churchyard. It is easy to vist the Lake District and also the Solway coast (good birdwatching) and the City of Carlisle.

Fantastic value accomodation with extremely helpful and friendly owners. The location is very good for exploring the North Lakes in particular (1 hr drive to Keswick).

As the owners say themselves no their website - this isn't 5 star accomodation -its a very old and quite compact cottage. Please be aware there is currently only a bath rather than shower and that the second bedroom has bunkbeds, but the cottage has everything for a comfortable stay, including a large fridge freezer and even a large garage for visitors to use (access tight). Bring some extra wood for the fire if you are likely to use lots.
