Clacton-on-Sea is one of the most iconic British seaside resort towns on the Essex coast. Clacton Beach has a long stretch of sand which is great for sunbathing, building sandcastles and swimming in the sea. Note that this is not a dog friendly beach and there are RNLI lifeguards patrolling the beach during the main season. You can also walk along the back of the beach so access is very good. The beach is backed by the Victorian Clacton Pier which has fun rides, arcades and a bowling alley, sea fishermen are usaully found at the end trying to grab a bite. If you prefer not to catch it yourself, there are several great fish and chip shops in the town.
This is really a traditional seaside town so along with the fish and chips, there are numerous ice cream stalls, bucket and spade shops and colorful beach huts along the promenade. The Pavilion Fun Park has go-karts and fairground rides and the West Cliff Theatre has comedy shows from the latest top comediens or musicals. Nearby Clacton Shopping Village has outlet stores if you want to grab yourself a bargain if the weather isn't so great! The cliff top gardens at Martello Bay or the Seafront Gardens are ideal if you just want to relax, grab a coffee and do a bit of people watching.
Clacton-on-Sea is really well known for its holiday parks but there are a small selection of holiday cottages in Clacton-on-Sea here from flats overlooking the beach to modern studios and town houses.
