Cottage Holiday Reviews for The Tudor Wing

The Tudor Wing, Yeolmbridge, Launceston, Cornwall inc Scilly,

Description of the self catering

... a mile from Yeolmbridge, of it private farm drive, is Cullacott, considered by English Heritage 'the most important medieval house in Cornwall', unique in its preservation, Grade I listed. Built in the 1400s, it was embellished by the Tudors, including with wall paintings (damaged but still fascinating), and has a medieval Great Hall rising two storeys high to its roof. Till 1700 the farmhouse of wealthy families, it became a farm-worker's cottage, even a stable. Neglect spared it dreadful improvements'. With help from English Heritage, the owners, whose farmhouse is 200 yards away, have sensitively restored it and it is listed in Simon Jenkins'England's Thousand Best Houses'. They have also very carefully divided the house into two cottages - the (original) Long House and the Tudor Wing. The house stands square-on to the cobbled former farmyard. On its other side, a long terrace (tables, chairs) and big garden (pictured above right - lawn, flowers, pear tree) with long lovely views down over the ownersfarm which you are welcome to wander down to woods and the river where you can fish for brown trout and salmon and the hardy bathe.

Cottage Review: The house and surroundings are magical. Fantastic historic building so sympathetically restored. It reminded me of a Landmark Trust property, but more personal and nicer.

Cottage Review: We would happily recomend the cottage. The history associated with the cottage is amazing. The only noise is from sheep baaing. If you want an idylic spot this is it! However, one downside worth noting is the distance from the bedrooms (interconnecting) to the bathroom is via an uneven, stone, spiral staircase, across a large lounge and then the kitchen - challenging at night if only in terms of light switches.

Cottage Review: Perfect location - blissfully quiet! The Tudor WIng was everything we'd hoped for and some! The owners were extremely welcoming and helpful without being intrusive. The weather was an absolute bonus and we spent many afternoons picnicing in the garden! (Not what we expected for April!)I would certainly recomend this property to anyone who wants to slow down and chill out. Perfect position for touring if you want to - we were quite happy to walk around the many acres of land and relax by the river. Thank you!!
