Cottage Holiday Reviews for The Barn House

The Barn House, Freshwater, Isle of Wight,

Description of the self catering property

Charming and relaxing, the Barn House lies in the heart of the beautiful West Wight between Freshwater Bay and Yarmouth, in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Adapted from a detached barn, it is ideally located for walking, cycling, golf and as a base for all that the island offers.

Freshwater Bay Golf Club, Tennyson Downs and the Round the Island cycle route are all close-by. Whether you want to get away from it all in the beautiful West Wight, or walk/cycle along the Western Yar into Yarmouth with its harbour and fascinating shops for a day trip back to the mainland, or enjoy the range of things to do and places to explore, both in the West Wight and across the island, this is the place for you.

The Needles Rocks and Lighthouse, Needles Park, Alum Bay, and the Military Road are a short drive from The Barn House. Further afield: English Heritage's Osborne House and Carisbrooke Castle offer hours of historical entertainment. The busy town of Cowes is easy to explore and is the centre of yachting and sailing activities.

Set in communal gardens, the Barn House has its own attractive private garden, laid to lawn and furnished with patio table and chairs. Inside, the well equipped kitchen-diner has a homely feel. The (thatched) sitting room is spacious with feature red brick wall, fireplace and exposed beams.

Freshwater and Yarmouth are the main towns in West Wight. Freshwater has the West Wight Sports Centre (with indoor pool) plus shops to meet your daily needs. Yarmouth is the closest ferry port and offers a range of quaint and quirky shops. The two towns offer a range of pubs, cafes and restaurants.

The hills above Freshwater are named after Alfred Lord Tennyson, the Poet Laureate who lived near Freshwater for almost 40 years. With fantastic views across the Channel, and back into the Solent, Tennyson was no doubt inspired by the scenery. A visit to the island wouldn't be complete without seeing some of that beauty for yourself.

The Barn House is maintained as a low allergen venue, with no pets allowed in the property.
