| Cottage Review:
Rosebank Cottage at Polruan (opposite Fowey) is situated at the top of a hill with a lovely garden and a magnificent view overlooking the harbour. The house is well equipped with cutlery, crockery, radio in each bedroom, TV, DVDs, and our stay could have been really lovely had it not been for a strong musty or mouldy smell in all the rooms that affected us strongly, that we nearly moved out on the first day. (We stayed because we doubted that we would find something else in the high season). We were only a small group so we did not have to use the third bedroom that was affected the worst. Otherwise a stay would really have become impossible. We left windows and doors open whenever we were there but matters did not improve during our stay. We could see stains at the walls and the ceilings and suspect that they were damp because of a non-functioning drainage system and/or because the roof had leaks. Polruan Cottages (the agency) confirmed that they had knowledge of the problem but that the rains in Cornwall had been very heavy that spring … A discount was not offered. When we were back home we found that the smell had penetrated all our belongings and virtually everything - used or unused - had to undergo washing or cleaning. In our opinion Rosebank Cottage should not have been let under these circumstances! We strongly recommend potential future tenants of the place to check that these problems have been amended before booking the otherwise beautiful cottage. |
