Rookery Nook, 8 Castle Street, Warkworth, Northumberland, NE65 0UW

Description of the cottage holiday

This lovely detached house, tucked away behind the main street in this ancient and historic coastal village, provides most comfortable accommodation in a picturesque setting. Warkworth itself is almost completely encircled by the River Coquet, and is dominated by the splendid mediaeval castle perched high on a mound. Half a mile up river is the famous Hermitage, a rock-hewn retreat with a very poignant history; it is quite unique in England and can only be reached by rowing boats, which can be hired during the summer. Being within a short distance of a superb stretch of beach and having some of the most lovely river scenery in the county, it is not surprising that Warkworth is a popular holiday location. Alnwick is 5 miles. Amble 2 miles south, has a marina and offers water sports, fishing trips and excursions to Coquet Island, an offshore RSPB sanctuary. Excellent golf nearby.

Cottage Review:

Beautiful house, tucked away behind the main street in Warkworth. No designated parking space, but plenty of parking nearby. The house was spotlessly clean and very well equipped - no chipped cups or missing door handles for us! Lovely surprise welcome of a bottle of wine was very much appreciated! Beautiful setting, gardens were well cared for at the front and back and the back garden provided a lovely space to sit and relax. Beautiful views and felt secluded, despite its central village location. A lovely cottage to stay in.

Cottage Review:

The village and surrounding areas are very pretty, the cottage makes a good base, however, it needs a good clean throughout, chipped cups! No lock on bathroom door and handles missing from furniture. Garden has good views but is spoilt by being overgrown and uncared for. Parking is very difficult.

Cottage Review:

With a three star rating and £450 in high season you don't expect a luxury cottage, what we got was a comfortable, homely cottage in probably one of the best spots in Warkworth.

The only negative issues: It could have been cleaner, the kitchen floor and the cooker needed cleaning before we unpacked. Sadly the garden at the front of the house overlooking the stunning countryside was neglected and overgrown,we appreciate the owners live a long way off,but would expect a gardener might be employed for a few hours now and again.

Parking can prove difficult.

Overall though, an excellent cottage, one we hope to return to,perhaps with our gardening tools!
