Holiday Cottage Reviews for Old School

Old School, WEST KNIGHTON, Dorset, dt2 8pe

Description of the holiday cottage

Old School is a lovely Grade II listed stone semi-detached property dating back to 1860 in the delightful village of West Knighton. This property exudes charm with many original features still in place from the exterior bell tower and clock to the interior exposed arched timberwork, thick solid walls, leaded light windows and decorative stonework. Local beaches in the area include Lulworth Cove, Durdle Door, and Poole (all around 30 minutes or less drive). Walking is a delight and the area has comprehensive footpaths and bridleways over the surrounding countryside and along the World Heritage Jurassic Coastline. Old School is the perfect choice for a holiday discovering the best of Dorset. The property has been completely renovated with modern kitchen, contemporary bathroom and three bedrooms. The lounge is large yet cosy and features a log burner. A double height entrance area downstairs and galleried hall upstairs are the perfect places for reading as they are light and spacious. West Knighton is a small picturesque village with a popular public house - The New Inn serving food and local ales, and the delightful Church of St Peter. Nearby the village of Broadmayne provides a good range of facilities including a parish church and village shop. The village is well positioned for easy access to Dorchester, Weymouth and the Purbecks. Dorchester, the county town is around 15 minutes by car and an ideal day trip with a number of museums, parks, shopping and restaurants. Travelling to Weymouth, around a 30 minute drive away offers a long sandy beach with traditional entertainments such as donkey rides, good shopping, restaurants and mainline railway travel to London Waterloo. The Purbecks are perfect for exploring and a large part of the district is now designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).
