Merit Hall Cottage, Knarsdale, BRAMPTON, Northumberland, CA8 7PD

Description of the self catering property

Nestled on the edge of the hamlet of Knarsdale, 5 miles from Alston, Merit Hall Cottage provides a peaceful haven for a romantic getaway to escape the rat race. The warm, cosy atmosphere of the cottage and the beautiful unspoilt countryside all around make it the perfect location for a walking or cycling break as the Pennine Way and cycle route 68 pass the door. The sitting room window looks out at ground level and in the springtime inquisitive lambs come to peer in and be plain nosey! A little stream flows down the side of the garden and into the South Tyne River a short distance away, providing some of the most picturesque landscapes to capture on canvas, relax for a picnic or enjoy some fishing which can be arranged locally. For those holidaying with pets there is a half-acre paddock for dogs to let off steam. The cottage is halfway between Haltwhistle, Centre of Britain, and Alston, the highest market town in England, both have a good selection of shops, pubs and cafes selling quality local food. The narrow gauge South Tynedale Railway begins at Alston with steam and diesel locomotives running from the station to Kirkhaugh during the year including Santa Specials in December.

Cottage Review:

We spent a week here in October 2012 and I would recommend it to anyone wanting a relaxing holiday in a beautiful location. We used the cottage as a base for exploring Hadrian's Wall and the North Pennines and it was lovely to come home at night to such a cosy cottage. I can't think of anything negative to say about Merit Hall, except to be aware there is a stream which runs through the property which would make it unsuitable for young children.
