Kittiwake Cottage, 6 Taylor Street, Seahouses, Northumberland, NE68 7RU

Description of the holiday cottage

For couples looking for a cosy retreat this well-appointed and deceptively spacious cottage could be just what the doctor ordered. Tucked away along a lane within a short walk to the busy harbour and local amenities Kittiwake is a single storey stone built cottage. Originally a fisherman’s home dating from the 1820’s it has recently undergone a complete makeover and now offers stylish modern holiday accommodation with a touch of luxury. Accommodation all on one level. Open plan layout with solid oak flooring throughout. Charming lounge area with wood burning stove. Light and airy fully fitted kitchen with dining table and door out to shared yard with bench seat. Immaculate spacious en-suite double bedroom with large shower cubicle and WC.

Cottage Review:

The cottage itself is beautiful – well styled and equipped. We were looking for a wee home from home where we could visit regularly. And on the cottage alone, this would have happened. However, the shared courtyard was not a place I would like to sit and have a glass of wine – shared with 2 lines of washing and half a dozen wheelie bins. But this pales into insignificance when we come to the parking. Whilst we were fortunate enough to be able to use Puffins parking area – to maneuver into it, missing walls, wheelie bins and 3 cars was no mean feat. And to add that little extra excitement, 2 of the cars are not taxed and one has a flat tyre which hasn’t moved for some time (see June comment in visitor book). Not taxed means probably not insured either, the road is little better than a 3rd world road. Whilst “somethings are not in your control” – the police can do something about the cars being dumped and an unadopted road does not stop homeowners from repairing it. This neglect is costing you business as I said earlier –we thought we would be returning but it won’t happen purely on the basis of the parking and road issues. In the brochure it said off road parking – that is a driveway – not a road in Beirut. We left a day and a half early because we couldn’t stand the hassle.
