Description of the cottage holiday
Nestled in idyllic unspoilt countryside at the foot of the Cheviot Hills, along the banks of the river Coquet Low Alwinton Cottages comprise of 3 200 year old stone built cottages and 3 Scandinavian log cabins. All are individually styled with private enclosed gardens and off road parking. The Northumberland National Park has been referred to as the land of the far horizon with splendid scenery it is a haven for wildlife like black grouse, ospreys and even otters can be spotted along the length of the river. Walking and rambling for all abilities begins at the cottage door with a leisurely stroll along the river bank or a more energetic hike to discover the beauty and open space of the Cheviot Hills. Keen anglers can take advantage of the challenging fishing in the river Coquet quite literally metres from the cottages. Northumberland is home to more castles and fortified houses than any other region in England. Alwinton is a short drive to the thriving market towns of Rothbury, Alnwick and Morpeth. All three towns have an excellent range of amenities to stock up on provisions, browse lovely gift shops or visit cafes to sample local cuisine. Alnwick has a magnificent castle to explore and the Alnwick Gardens are great for a family outing.Best Features
Coquet Cottage is the oldest of the 6 properties. It is full of charm and character and has an added bonus of being inter- connecting with Cheviot Cottage to sleep up to 11 people. Ground floor. The lounge hosts a open log fire, exposed stone walls, stone floor with under floor heating and a chesterfield suite. Large kitchen with feature fireplace, dining table and modern kitchen units. Cosy double bedroom. Bathroom with bath and WC. First floor. Double bedroom. Twin bedded room with inter-connecting door to Cheviot Cottage. Both upstairs bedrooms have sloping ceilings with original beams.
