Carpenter's Cottage, Winfrith Newburgh, Lulworth Cove, Dorset,

Something tells me the person who wrote the 'miserable' review must have had either stayed at a different cottage or perhaps had their deposit retained for doing something iffey!!!

Beautiful cottage, loads of room, great surroundings, a much treasured 'home' we were fortunate to be able to holiday in. Will certainly be back AND telling our friends.

We had a very enjoyable weekend at the cottage. The accommodation was very well furnished, comfortable and clean with a lovely garden. The location was good as there were lots of possible places to visit.There is enough space so that even with a larger party you do not need to all be together all the time if you need a bit of 'you time'.I would certainly consider revisiting in the future.

We found this cottage extremely well presented, well furnished and very clean. The garden was amazing, especially on the really sunny days we experienced. The location was ideal for visiting the surrounding area and within walking distance of the local pub which provided good food.

In response to lmca11's comments below; we had no issue with the deposit or moving the furniture to suit our parties requirements.

Although the cottage itself was reasonable it had some significant failings, including one tiny fridge (for a party of 8!), a rear gate that broke in the wind (the cost of repair being deducted from our deposit despite our attempts to fix it to make the property secure), a huge array of 'nik naks' that needed to be in the same position when you left (or a deduction was made from the deposit), we foolishly moved a chaise longue to be able to see the television and apparently it wasn't positioned in exactly the same place when we left. The only way to do this would be to photograph every room on arrival. I would warn anyone that should they stay in this cottage pay attention to the small print, the owners will deduct money from your deposit for anything they can find (or fabricate) and when we queried such deductions they wouldn't respond to the points made. Make sure that you empty the dishwasher when you are trying to leave the property (in our case with 4 young children) before 10am because the additional work for the housekeeper to empty it will be deducted from your deposit (although I would expect any housekeeper to check all crockery/cutlery to ensure it is clean after a holiday stay anyway). The attitude and pettiness of the owners made, what would otherwise have been a reasonable stay, a thoroughly miserable experience.

We visited this wonderful cottage in March 2011 and I honestly cannot disagree more with the other review posted which is contrary to the entire experience that we received. We were a party of 7 and found everything in this cottage FIRST CLASS. We had absolutely no problem with the owners. They were truly efficient, flexible and honest from the moment we booked to the moment we left. This cottage has been beautifully decorated as a home - a home that is a pleasure to rent for a holiday. With a child in our party, I know we moved some ornaments but I can assure you we did not have any of our deposit taken and the kitchen facilities are ample for a party of 8. Therefore I have to disagree entirely with the comments in the previous review. All I can say is that the cottage is wonderful, in a great location so please do not be deterred by the other review. If you do, you are missing out on a great holiday. We shall definitely return to Carpenters Cottage in the future!

Whilst looking for a holiday property to rent this summer I stumbled across a review for carpenter's cottage and had to double check to make sure it was the same property that I stayed in! We were a party of 3 adults and 4 children ages ranging from 3 up to 12 and we had a fantastic time. The cottage was beautifully maintained both inside and out, very clean, wonderfully furnished, the owners where very helpful and we would definitely stay there again. Great location.

We were delighted with Carpenter's Cottage and with the dealings we had with the owner (we needed different weight duvets due to a change in weather - new ones were purchased and supplied within the day). It was clear that the cottage had been carefully and lovingly restored and furnished and it has a luxurious feel to it. We made some suggestions as to additions to the equipment and these were welcomed. I simply don't recognise the owners reflected in the comments of the unhappy customer.

We have stayed in dozens of self-catering properties and this is one of the best.
