| Cottage Review:
DO NOT Trust the Owner! We booked this cottage through Sykes and were looking forward so much to having a lovely week away. We are both retired and this would have been our first holiday since Covid and to make it even more special, we were going to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary on the Friday we were there! We travelled over 250 miles to Cornwall on the Saturday morning we were due to book in, and arrived at 11am. We knew we couldn’t book in until 3pm so we enjoyed a delicious early lunch in a local restaurant and went for a walk on the beach (absolutely beautiful!) We text the owner about 12.30 to let her know we would arrive at Caer (the cottage) at 3pm, which is all part of the arrival process with the owner. She didn’t reply to our text but we thought nothing of it. At around 1pm we received a call from Sykes informing us the cottage owner had cancelled our booking! We were dumbfounded to say the least! We asked why and Sykes said she didn’t say why…nothing! Sykes then offered us different accommodation, which was nothing remotely like our booking at the cottage that had just cancelled on us, AND it was a further 1 and half hours drive away! For the owner to, point blank, not even apologise or give any sort of reason as to why she cancelled our booking is utterly deplorable. She should be ashamed of herself and how she ‘runs her business’ My husband and I have worked in the hospitality sector before we retired and we are just appalled at the level of disrespect shown by the owner and how Sykes have handled this situation as a whole. To really add insult to injury, Sykes refunded our money to our Sykes account! I have absolutely no idea why Sykes thought we would book another holiday with them! - if they are happy to have clients like the Caer cottage owner on their books, I’d rather not take the chance that the next owner might not cancel our booking! I’m pleased to say, after phoning Sykes our money is back in our account…at least one thing went our way! In my opinion, just avoid Sykes and Caer cottage in Crafthole, Cornwall. If you do, your chance of actually having a holiday will increase! PS To Sykes cottages or the owner, IF you do post a reply, please do not patronise us with “...we’re sorry you had a bad experience, blah, blah…” or any of the other ‘templated’ responses you read online!! As you will be aware, we’re both around 70 years old so we are fully aware of condescending speech!! |
