Anchor Cottage, 44 West Street, Polruan, Cornwall inc Scilly, PL23 1PL

Description of the holiday cottage

A recently refurbished cottage occupying a prime location in an unspoilt Cornish fishing village. Located on West Street and within yards of the quay, beach and pubs, Anchor Cottage occupies a prime village location giving all main rooms panoramic views of Fowey and the river estuary.

Best Features

At the heart of the village is the Quay from where the Polruan passenger ferry crosses the river to the town of Fowey and the Coal Wharf which plays host to numerous village functions. As the tide goes out two small beaches are revealed either side of the Quay. Easy access to the coast path and river estuary provide walks of varying distances and degrees of difficulty. The Eden Project, The Lost Gardens of Heligan, numerous National Trust properties, Bodmin Moor, local picturesque villages and many other area attractions provide ample choice for day trips. Recently re-decorated, re-equipped and re-carpeted the cottage offers two bedrooms, two bathrooms, dining room, lounge and kitchen over three floors. The kitchen has a larder fridge/freezer, ceramic hob, fan oven, microwave and dishwasher. A washing machine and tumble drier are located in a lockable outhouse at the rear of the property. The cottage also benefits from free broadband.

Don't be put off that this is not Fowey - from Polruan you get to look at Fowey! We've stayed in both and I did prefer the quiet of Polruan. Fowey is a short and pleasurable ferry away after all. Parking is an issue in Polruan (as it is in Fowey) - the streets are tiny - but it actually makes the village far more pleasant to walk around. You can drive up to the cottage to load and unload, but you'll be leaving your car in the main car park a short walk away. It's really not an issue.

Where Fowey is busy and touristy, Polruan is quiet and feels like a real village. Good pub on the quay - this cottage is a lovely base. Highly recommended. And genuinely great value for money.
