Description of the self catering
Afton Thatch is a large, detached thatched holiday cottage located at the head of the River Yar, which extends from Yarmouth Harbour, one of England's most unspoilt seaside villages. It is available year round for weeks, short breaks and weekends.
Best Features
In an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the cottage, originally built in 1697, has recently been restored to a very high standard and has been awarded 4 stars by Visit Britain. Tasteful and yet understated, this lovely cottage has been interior designed and features antiques, handmade and upholstered furniture throughout.
With oak beams, fireplaces and an eat-in kitchen, complete with aga, the cottage has an authentic style and atmosphere that is rare among rental properties.
The cottage has river views on one side and open fields on the other. It is in a tranquil location but within easy walking distance to the village of Old Freshwater, with its pub, The Red Lion, as well as the larger village of Freshwater with its food market.

| Cottage Review:
We had a splendid time in Afton Thatch, it suited us down to the ground! We were very comfortable and found the access to ferry, buses and supermarket ideal. On Monday we walked along the estuary into Yarmouth and back (found the farm shop), so really explored. We loved sitting on the estuary seat and it was an excellent spot for painting. Also enjoyed the views from the cottage, a red squirrel put in an appearance in the tree which you can see from the bedroom on our final morning. We didn't eat out in the evenings as we couldn't imagine that we would get such a super view in a restaurant as we did from the cottage! | Cottage Review: I really just wanted to say how much we enjoyed staying there as it was a really relaxing holiday. The cottage was great and the area as you had suggested was superb. We managed to have breakfast outside every day (bar one I think when it was a bit cloudy and windy) so the weather obviously helped a bit. All in all an excellent holiday and I will certainly be recommending your cottages to friends and relatives. Finally it was lovely to meet you whilst we were there – always nice to put a face to a name. Oh and the veg you gave us from the garden worked a treat in the Bolognaise. | |||||
