Absolutely LOVED this cottage..as others say , 'like staying in your Aunties house' so don't expect posh..but as soon as we walked in we felt at home...we stayed the following week in a posh AND much more expensive cottage on Mull and it wasn't as half as nice. Murdoch, the owner, couldn't have been more helpful...Location great too.

If you are attracted to this holiday cottage and intrigued, rather than put off by the owner's frank description of the facilities, you will, like us, have a wonderful holiday. The house is comfortable, warm and well equipped. It is in a lovely setting and the surrounding area is stunning.

Set in the beautiful village of Glenelg, this is a wonderful little house, fully appointed with all you need - wifi, washing, tv, etc. My family has visited here some 7-8 times over the last 15 years and had a wonderful time on every visit. There's much to see close by and the hospital Glenelg Inn is just down the hill. We always say this place is weather-neutral. You can walk and see things whatever the weather, and you always get at least a couple of sunny days.

A really nice house, with stunning sea views, in a great location, close to an excellent pub and a small but adequately stocked shop. The house feels really homely and has a unique rustic charm (which might be lost on people who expect a modern kitchen and bathroom but we really liked it). Perfect base for walkers and nature lovers. It is very close to the Glenelg Ferry to Skye, so you can also explore the south of the island easily. There is so much so see and enjoy around Glenelg, one week was not enough. The house is excellent value for money and offers a lovely Highland experience.

This is a charming home set in the most beautiful of locations on the west coast of Scotland.

The house itself is a traditional cottage, think of a farming cottage rather than a stereo typical holiday home.

This is a home away from home, not a sterile business. It's a place to relax after walking the shores opposite Skye or roaming the hills that rise above you in every direction.

The house although simple, had everything we could need. Heating, wifi, comfy beds, all kitchen utensils and the most amazing deep bath. The house is very large and can sleep a lot more people given the 3 bedrooms on offer, exceptional value for size and wonderful location.

The garden is large and secure for your furry friends to run around in or indeed for you to relax in with a glass of vino. Perhaps not February though.

Murdoch the owner was always reachable via phone or email and communication before and during our visit was first class.

The local shop and Inn are within 3 or 4 minutes walk. The shop has more than the basics and the Inn has a comfy, local and welcoming vibe.

Great place to stay for a weekend or longer and in the most perfect of locations with Skye and Loch Alsh an easy drive....that said we can honestly say the immediate surroundings of Glenelg are so beautiful, you may not want to venture far.

We came from Germany in search for a quite and lovely place to stay over Hogmanay. What we found was beyond our expectations. The cottage is lovely decorated with charme. With a fantastic view it is a good base to wander through the nature and also to sit inside and watch the ocean and mountains around. It's the perfect place for people who want to calm down from overtechnical city-lifestyle, but still has everything that is neccessary for an easy holiday with kids and dogs like washing machine and tumble dryer. If you're looking for a luxury hotel this IS NOT your place. It's an old house with his little tricks, which we liked a lot. For us the house and area became a home away from home. We will come back!

Dog-Parents: If your dog isn't very small and tiny the garden is save for running around :)

Bac na Bearn was a real find. My wife, four children, my parents & I spent a very wet and windy October week in the house and had a great holiday despite the weather! It's in a beautiful elevated position on the edge of the village, just a short walk from the shore, the pub and the village shop. It's an old, lived in house which will benefit from ongoing improvements the owner is making, but it's warm, the beds are comfortable and there's everything you need in the kitchen.

Glenelg is a beautiful, remote part of the country with stunning views at every turn. We particularly enjoyed our trips on the ferry, Sheena's tea hut and sitting by the fire in the Glenelg Inn.

The owner was very helpful, providing lots of information and tips. We hope to return very soon and maybe even see the sunshine a bit next time.

This a delightful property in a superb location with uninterrupted sea views. Its full of character and charm and has everything you need for an enjoyable stay. Its ideally situated for exploring the area and a short drive to the ferry crossing to the Isle of Skye. There is a lovely sandy beach nearby which the dogs loved (which we had to ourselves most days) and the Glenelg Inn is a short walk away down a little track, serving really good food and real ales. The owner was really helpful and accommodating and very easy to contact. We loved this house and hope to return next year.

Bac na bearn is a wonderful holiday home in one of the most beautiful areas of Scotland, Glenelg. If you are looking for peace & quiet with lots of room, inside & outside of the house, then this wont disappoint. Everything you require for a family or couples holiday is at hand.

The garden is large and spacious, which is great for kids, family games or playing with your dog. There's an amazing view down the Sound of Sleat from inside or outside the house. You can sit on a deckchair in the garden or look out the large sitting room window, watching the yachts & shipping passing through the channel.

The local well stocked village shop, is a 7 minute walk from the house, as is the hub of the community, the Glenelg and Arnisdale Community Hall with it's own cafe. The award winning Glenelg Inn is 5 minutes away by foot and the harbour area is just at the bottom of the 100m single track road that leads up to the house.

There are plenty of lovely walks around and about Glenelg and lots of interesting historic sites. The famous Glenelg Ferry is a 5 minute drive away with beautiful views over to Skye and lots of interesting wildlife, including, Seals, Otters, Sea Eagle etc.

The house itself is comfy and cozy with a very homely feel. It's not modern but it's full of character. The bath is the biggest I've ever had the pleasure of relaxing in, with plenty hot water.

The owner is a lovely man, who really cares about his guests having a comfortable, stress free stay. Though he doesn't stay near Glenelg, his communication is excellent and has a neighbour who is available if there are any issues.

All in all, Bac na bearn in Glenelg ticks all the boxes for us as a family of four who appreciate the simpler things in life.

What a great house and location. Full of charm and plenty of space. We really liked the "lived in" and homely feel to the house. It's a little rough around the edges but this is the Highlands! All the essentials needed are in the house and the beds are good. The locals were friendly, great traditional pub 5 mins walk away. Good local shop. Lovely setting, 10mins from ferry to Skye with the seals to keep you amused while you navigate the strong currents as you cross. Fantastic, we will be back.

A really beautiful traditional Highland home. We have been visiting the magical Highlands for many years and choose to only stay in this wonderful house. Over the years we have seen a gradual process of improvements, whilst the inherent charm of the property is retained. It is exactly what we want after a long day in the hills with our young family, who cannot wait to return after each visit, despite the 12-hour drive from the South West! The owners of the property can not do enough to help if needed and their relaxed and friendly attitude, only enhances the holistic experience. We cannot recommend the property or location highly enough and in fact, our only reservation in doing so, is for the purely selfish reason that we are likely to have to compete with many others, once our 'secret hideaway' is discovered! The owners description of the property is highly accurate in our opinion and describes the 'rustic charm' of Bac na bearn perfectly!

This is a brilliant place. It is not your standard homogenised holiday let. It is a lived in highland style house. It is full of family stuff - you don't need to bring your own salt and pepper a lot of basics are passed on from one stay to next. If you're looking for ensuite rooms and TV games give it a miss - although the broadband in Glenelg is better than I have in Gloucestershire. The view from the lounge over the Sound of Sleat is stunning - it can also have horizontal rain but the house is really warm and has saunalike heating. We stayed as a group of family and friends and did some great walks - there is a Munro Beinn Sgritheall - that is pronounced skreel - just round the corner and loads of other walks and climbs - so if you can schedule your bathroom rota this place really works for a robust eating, drinking walking holiday and we will be back.
