What a fantastic place. We expected a high standard prior to our visit having read other peoples' reviews and in addition had the viewed the high quality and highly informative website and we were certainly not disappointed. The attention to detail and equipment provided were every bit as good and comprehensive as visitors had said. The location was stunning. We were snowed in one day so undettered we ventured to the village and enjoyed the hospitality of the local facilities. Several libations later we ventured back "home" and feeling virtuous having made the trek to and fro the village in near blizzard conditions, it was a pleasure to enjoy the warmth and surroundings of Yethouse. The boys, having been forewarned, brought their x-box and own TV and were thoroughly catered for. Our daughter was in the lap of luxury with her own bathroom. The week passed far to quickly and and we only scratched the surface when using the library - books, CDs, DVDs and games. The wifi was a great inclusion. I greatly appreciated the number of different rooms where I could escape and relax. The welcoming cake was a great touch and delicious. We got out and about to nearby borders towns as well as two visits to Edinburgh, but next time we will stay more locally and explore the surrounding countryside in greater detail. All of this added up to a stress free, exhilaratingand relaxing break. Thank you Barbara - we didn't want to leave.

So pleased to have found the Yethouse on VisitScotland website. It is truly a hidden gem with all the rooms so much bigger than the photos suggest. We had a fantastic 4 night break enjoying the delights of the house and area. We enjoyed starlight walks, scenic drives, open fires in the evening and peace and tranquility. There was plenty of room for each of us to find our own space or enjoy playing boardgames together in the evenings. In fact we cannot wait to go back for another visit, or better still move in !!! It was just perfect!

The farmhouse is absolutely stunning and so much bigger than the pictures suggest. The attention to detail throughout is second to none with everything you could possibly need and more. (i had brought a bag filled with washing up liquid, bin bags, cleaning stuff etc but I really shouldn't have bothered - everything was already there.)

The kitchen is a joy to cook in, there are 2 livingrooms, one with a fully stocked library of books, dvds and cds and another quieter room with no tv. Both have open fires and comfy couches and seats. The formal dining room was great for new years dinner!

The section of games and activities within the house was great and everyone was kept occupied even with the typical Scottish weather to be expected at this time of year.

Bedrooms again were lovely. Beds were so comfy and big - you didn't have to touch your other half! Mirrors in all rooms and plenty of cupboard space.

The 2 upstairs bathrooms were spotless (the big free standing bath under the skylight was a treat after being out walking in the rain.) The downstairs toilet and shower room was fine although make sure you have your slippers on as the real floor tiles could get a bit chilly!

This house is perfect for dogs as well. The garden is fully enclosed and private. There are beautiful walks any way you look. Barbara and Paul even leave doggy towels at all the doors for a rub down before coming in.

I wish the weather had allowed us to make more use of the gardens. There is also a lovely bbq area with seats and flowers being constructed that will be awesome when completed.

The location was perfect. The Yet House is within the grounds of Barbara and pauls home however you do not feel as if any privacy is lost as the gardens are round the other side of the house. It was handy to have them so close - they were always there to provide a helping hand. The village is within walking distance (about a mile and a half) the downhill walk is fine but the return leg is mostly uphill so might not be suitable for everyone. There are no taxis operating in the village either and the road is very dark, therefore we nominated a designated driver for the evenings spent in the local pub. The house is very rural but there are lots of activities nearby with loads of walks and trails on your doorstep. Lovers of the great outdoors (walking and cycling especially) will be in their element!

It is worth noting that all mobile phone signal is lost at the farmhouse. WiFi is provided though and was fast. There is also a landline that came in handy. For me it added to the experience that I could just put my phone in a drawer and forget about it.

To sum up, this house was amazing and was exceptional value for money. It is rated 4 star but many of the facilities were of a 5 star standard and the service from Barbara and Paul certainly was 5 star.

A holiday here can be as fast paced or relaxing as you want with something for all ages and interests.

I would not hesitate to recommend this to anyone looking for a lovely break away. We will definitely be back!

Just come back from an absolutely fantastic stay in a superb cottage. Gorgeous house, gorgeous surroundings with plenty of walks on your doorstep. The 7 staines mountain biking was superb for the boys and Rock UK-absailing,mountain climbing, zip wire and private pool was brilliant. Barbara the owner was very friendly and helpful and couldn't have done more-was lovely to arrive and find a homemade lemon drizzle cake in the kitchen- really nice touch. What more can we say-fantastic place and would recommend it 100% [Added at Editor's discretion since it appears to be a helpful review and the reviewer has been authenticated]

Yethouse was a perfect house and we wish we had more time just to spend in the house itself - we will definitely be back at some point. The lemon drizzle cake, which welcomed us on arrival, was delicious and the children loved the Santa throws on their beds - a nice touch . "Winter Wonderland" at Kielder was a spectacular day out, a great start to the ‘festive season’. Like many we also recommend the Grapes Hotel for a fab meal. Thanks a lot and Merry Christmas

This was our second visit this year, only this time just for a long weekend. As ever Yethouse is better than "home from home" (well it is for us anyway) and is great for both those who are active and like the outdoors and those who prefer to relax in front of a roaring fire and curl up on a sofa. We did a bit of both. Excellent facilities and a great place to really relax.

This was our second visit to Yethouse. After spending a long weekend here in March we enjoyed it so much that we returned for a full week in September. The house is brilliant. Very cosy and very well equipped.

The location is exceptional and we made the most of our week with long walks locally and around Kielder water. Kielder is a great place to visit. The lakeside way is superb and there are also lots of activities available and it is only 30 minutes away by car.

Locally we can recommend the walks around Priesthill and through Newcastleton forest. If you cannot manage the 18 mile cross-border trail then try the 9 mile Hunters trail with a diversion to take in the high border crossing at Bloody Bush. The toll-stone at the border is worth the additional 5 mile diversion although it may not feel like it on the long uphill haul through the forest!

Barbara and Paul have a lovely house and their hospitality is 5 star. We hope to return again in the not too distant future.

We are very fussy when booking a holiday cottage. We have 2 girls, aged 7 & 4 and a teenage son. This accomodation was perfect! The space was fantastic! Hide "n" seek heaven for all the children! I love my kitchen, but this kitchen was amazing!) The farmhouse is comfortable, clean, well equipped with a fabulous enclosed garden. The weather wasn't very kind to us, so we rarely got chance to sit outside, but it looked georgous even through the windows! Children over 7 - Rock uk is a must! My son and I went open canoeing (a 1st for both of us) my 13 & 7 year old loved archery & the water walkers and we all loved the pool - we had it all to ourselves - book in advance if you can!

“We wanted to have a family holiday with our daughters, sons in law & Grandson Harry and we certainly couldn’t have picked a better place than Yethouse. The accommodation was superb, plenty of space for us all in a really lovely setting. There was something for everyone to do, cycling for Richard, running for Mike, fishing for Dad and some pampering nearby for the girls. As for Harry – he just had a ball! Thank you Barbara & Paul for your hospitality & for the lovely lemon drizzle cake – it was scrumptious. It was particularly nice to be able to bring the family dogs with us – two old timers Holly & Harvey. They enjoyed nice strolls from the cottage & the enclosed garden. The wildlife is amazing, we particularly enjoyed watching the woodpeckers each day. Yethouse was such a lucky find on the internet. Hopefully we will be back soon. Thanks you.”

A lovely house in a lovely location, plenty of room to find some peace and quiet if you need it.There are plenty of books to read, dvd,s to watch and music to listen to.

There is a lock up to put any bikes or other equipment if required which is handy.

We have a Great dane and a labrador, lots of space for them inside and out.

A great mountain bike area just up the hill and an adventure training centre just down the hill. The staff in the centre were first class.

Barbara and Paul are really friendly and helpful and bake a mean cake.

The locals in the village were all friendly, say hello and appreciate you being there.

The Grapes Hotel is nice and serves some good food.

There is a newsagent and corner shop which sells provisions and a good butchers shop.

We had an active holiday and it was great getting back to Yethouse, getting showered and kicking back and relaxing. All in all a great holiday.

We had a very busy long weekend and regretted not booking for longer so we could enjoy the Yethouse and garden. We spent a day in Kelso for the Border union Dog show, thank you for making ‘Doug’ so welcome. He is a good boy and we really appreciate you trusting dog owners to share and stay in such a lovely house – we definitely didn’t have to compromise on quality. Kelso is lovely (an hour away) the drive is worth it just for the scenery. Found plenty of forest walks en route. St. Mary’s Loch is stunning too. Can recommend the take away beer battered fish & chips from the Liddesdale in Newcastleton village. Thank you so much.

A happy, comfortable and peaceful home with considerate and stylish neighbours – what more could you want! Thanks for having us – good to meet you both. Probably the best place we have ever stayed in, and we’ve stayed in lots of holiday homes around the UK! Loved the generous collection of books, and CDs and the very comfortable furnishings. Dogs had a great time exploring all the Priest Hill walks – fantastic to have such an amenity on your doorstep. The Pirelli Rally and 24Hour Exposure cycle race were an unexpected bonus. Fishing in the river was hopeless due to lack of water – will come back and have another go after it rains a bit!

An absolutely idyllic cottage and gardens. I seemed to relax within a minute of arrival. Leather arm chair, log fire & classic rock library was my idea of heaven. Will miss waking up to the stunning views & our adopted woodpecker, pheasant and other birds that have visited the gardens daily. The local area is beautiful, we have enjoyed our leisurely strolls. WE WILL BE BACK. Thanks for a truly relaxing and heavenly week. Graham

I was very pleased when I heard that I was sleeping in the best bedroom (just the same as my friend William) I had a great time doing kiyacing, cannooing, and using the water walkers at Rock UK. All of the family enjoyed going to Hadreeons Wall, were we saw roman catipots being fired at wooden people. I and my mum like watching the woodpeckers, pheasants, swallows and blue tits. The ponds are worth pond dipping and it’s easy to catch dragon flies and tadpoles. By Aaron, (aged 8)

Beautiful cottage,, fantastic scenery, lovely people. Thank you. Aaron has said “one of the best holidays ever” we would love to return. Elizabeth.

We booked Yethouse to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. We like walking and Yethouse was in a location we had not previously visited. Barbara greeted us warmly on arrival and showed us around the house. The house is amazing. It is definitely a home from home. Midge settled in very quickly.

The garden is enclosed and suitable for allowing your dog to roam around. The views to the rear of the house are stunning. During our stay we had snow, fog, rain and bright sunshine and the vista takes on a different perspective with the changing weather.

We could not fault our stay in the house. There are plenty of books, games, cd's and dvd's so you shouldn't need to bring anything for entertainment. There is an iPod docking station in the dining room so if you must have your own music you will be catered for. The kitchen is phenomenally well equipped and the large fridge is excellent for keeping your drinks chilled :).

For the walkers amongst you there are plenty of forestry walks literally on your doorstep ranging from 1 mile up to the 18 mile cross-border route. Mountain bikers are also well catered for with the Newcastleton 7stanes centre about 0.5 miles from the house.

Would we recommend staying at Yethouse. Unreservedly Yes. We will be hoping to return for another stay later this year.

A most enjoyable, relaxing stay in beautiful Newcastleton. We enjoyed the well equipped kitchen, well stocked lounge and great surroundings. The local centre - Rock UK offered some great attractions, including a 300 foot zip line and loads of pursuits we can recommend. The mountain biking was enjoyed by all of the party who indulged but some of us preferred the more sedate pace of life, leisurely stroll into Newcastleton, walks into the forest, nibbles at the Olive Tree, meals at the Grapes etc. Marvellous!

Beautiful cottage, state of the art fittings, all modern cons but still with a lovely cosy atmosphere.

Great for romantic couples, but our little girl would have loved it, if she had been with us. Our dog Baxter certainly did.

Location ideal for walking or just touring the countryside.

Mountain bike station within 1/2 mile and a large activity centre very close by to suit the more adventurous families. Particularly enjoyed the visits by the Pheasants in the evenings who clearly regarded the garden as their own.

The lovely new baked loaf and jam waiting for us made it an ideal break.

We will definitely be back.

A superby appointed house in a lovely position with an owner who goes to so much trouble to ensure you have a wonderful stay - Yethouse is highly commended. Some of our party had to come by public transport so it was great that it was still possilble to stay in a remote and peaceful place but get right to the village from Edinburgh by bus! It was then just a short walk up the hill. We enjoyed wonderful hill-top walking, seeing no-one else, and also the MTB trails at Newcastleton and Glentress. The kitchen was very well equipped so cooking for a large number was a cinch. Evenings were spent around the big table eating and drinking and then we nodded off by the fire with a good book or played games; we brought our own but really needn't have done as Barbara has provided a great many books, dvds, cds and games. And it was great to know that after all our strenuous activity outdoors, we would get a good nights sleep - no cheapskate beds and bedding! Do go there.

The place is so quite and relaxing I would recommend this to anyone, although the more people we recommend the harder it will be for us to rebook it in the future!!!!

Cottage Review: The most comfortable well equipped cottage we have ever visited, the homemade bread a very welcoming touch. We enjoyed the music collection and slept like a log. The garden is lovely, both within and beyond the garden walls. our daughter has decided to buy the house for us when she's rich so please let her know when you put it on the market!

Cottage Review: We have had a very enjoyable and relaxing week at Yethouse. It is extremely well equipped but missing vital scone cutters (now in place!). It is an ideal home for my parents when they grow old. an excellent place to go is Rock UK, it is very nearby and provides fabulous range of activites. I would happily go again, I especially recoommend the spectacular 300m zip wire, fun kayaking and an enjoyable high ropes course. Overall a top notch cottage!

Cottage Review: Just wonderful! We have had the most fantastic week in a most beautiful house. The house is well equipped and comfortable. The welcome from Barbara was fantastic, along with the bread and jam, very much appreciated. As a keen cook I LOVED the kitchen and have spent all week persuading my husband to get a similar range at home! Local village was lovely – very welcoming and friendly. Can’t even complain about the weather – we have been blessed. Would like to rebook for Oct 2010 if you’ll have us!

Cottage Review: We wanted to come somewhere ‘special’ to have a family gathering for our sons 21st and boy did we find it! What a fantastic place, so homely, so relaxing we didn’t want to go out and leave the house once the fires were alight! Instead of going out we cooked and stayed in! It was perfect, the views the wildlife, the walks, the weather and this beautiful home plus the final personal touch – a bottle of champagne in the fridge. So thoughtful. Thank you. PS we will be back for more.

Cottage Review: A wonderful well thought out and comfortable house in a fantastic area. We hadn’t realised just how lovely this area of Scotland is and had only passed through it before. Newcastleton is such a friendly village and the hotels and bars are welcoming. We very much look forward to coming again, the walks at Priesthill are lovely and Kershope forest well worth a wonder, Kielder is also very close where we’ve had wonderful walks in the woods.

Cottage Review: Lovely house, very comfortable and homely. Very welcoming and friendly hosts, enjoyed our week in an area that we’ve never been too before. Great walking and cycling from the doorstep. Particularly enjoyed the feeling of being away from it all! Would definitely come back for another visit.

Cottage Review: What a fantastic place! Everything we needed and more. Fab weather and so many places to visit we need to come again and could do with 2 weeks next time. Rickard family, May 09
