Description of the holiday cottage
Perched high above Gilsland with panoramic, awe inspiring views across one of England's finest National Parks West Nichold Cottage is a luxurious stone cottage transformed from a fortified Reivers barn. Whilst the contemporary styled kitchen, bathrooms and relaxing lounge give the cottage a modern twist many of the original features, such as knarled oak beams, arrow slit windows, sark boarded ceilings and the outside hayloft steps have been painstakingly restored and retained. West Nichold Cottage is built on a natural rock outcrop formed around 340 millions years ago, which has been integrated into the enclosed garden area. The cottage is approached along a hard field track which leads to this wonderful 5 star bolthole offering complete solitude to recharge those batteries. For those keen on walking, ornithology and wildlife this is the perfect venue with paths and trails leading in every direction straight from the door. Further afield is the border city of Carlisle, Gretna Green, the Lake District to the west and Newcastle to the east. The small market towns of Haltwhistle and Brampton have a good selection of shop, cafes and tourist information centres. Roman Army Museums along the route of Hadrian's Wall can be reached on foot or by car. Private fishing on farm.Best Features
