Cottage Review:
This cottage reeks quality - the concept, the building, the enormous attention to detail in the furniture and fittings (with maybe the single exception of the in-bath showers), and the range and perfect condition of the equipment. We were blessed with hot sunny weather for our week's stay, which I suppose added to our experience. We drove to Ferring Beach three times - 15-20 minutes driving to a sparsely populated pebble beach with a full car park (allow 5 minutes wait to find a space) and an excellent Covid-observant cafe. On the non-beach days we enjoyed just sitting in the orchard/garden at the cottage. We found one awful restaurant in Worthing (Brio) but two excellent ones (Palm Court in Worthing and The Bridge in Shoreham) and a very good Indian takewaway (Tajdar in Findon). The cotage is located along a winding, narrow country lane which is paved (!) presumably by the Gun Club which is located a mile past the cottage. The owners live in a house 50 metres from the cottage, and they have two very friendly but also quite boisterous dogs who like to visit the cottage. The good news is that they are very obedient and will return to their house when instructed! Arundel is a mere 15-minute drive away and well worth a visit. Over many years we have stayed in many cottages and apartments in several countries, and the Dog and Trout wins my "Best So Far" award. It represents a perfect combination of rural living, top quality of residence, and convenience of beautiful walks and places to visit. The owners Julie and Martyn (who make themselves ever available to help their guests, but without appearing pushy) should be proud of what they have achieved. We will see them again. |
