After much looking we decided on this property by the photos , yes we knew it had steps inside and out but having older children that was ok. However I think the photos were taken on a good day! The whole cottage was in need of redecorating and modernisation and quite tatty in places, yes it's an old property but you could see damp on the walls and inside the cupboards.Photos do not show the rear adjoined property that is used as a shop that you can see into when you open the rear door, the children found this quite spooky. What really worried us was that in an event of fire would you be able to get out because all the windows had locks on them including the patio door which we couldn't open even with the key.Beware the rear access is really tight.Oppisite is a paper shop be prepared to be woken early as single glazed.

First class in all respects - the whole family thought that the standard of accommodation was first class - this was our second visit and we would not have returned if we had complaints on the first visit. Yes there are steps but these show up clearly on the photographs. Owner friendly and helpful. If the family wish to return next year we will book again! Excellent place to stay - spotless accommodation for families- a big bonus is the en-suite bathroom. Central for the attractions of Lindisfarne & Bamburgh. May not have views but central for the town shops including a good Coop only a couple of minutes from the door. Full marks from our family

Cottage Review:

Ludlow Cottage provided everything we needed for a holiday in the Northumbrian countryside! Perfect location, so many things to see in the surrounding areas, the landlady was kind and helpful, offering to carry our bags in, the children loved being only 10 minutes from the beach. The house is on two floors, but the sunken patio provided a lovely sun trap for pre outing breakfasts! We sensibly wouldn't have booked this cottage if one of our party could not manage steps, particularly as there are clearly steps on the photos. We couldn't recommend it highly enough.

Cottage Review:

The cottage was clean and had all the things you would need for a self catering holiday, but it did have one major drawback, that being in total 32 steps. The stairs did have a hand rail but you could only hold on to it for 3/4 of the way up, then it was tight to the wall, when you reached the top, there were 2 step to one side and 3 steps to the other with no hand rail. After parking your car there are 7 stone steps down to ground level again with no hand rail, then a further 2 stone steps up to the cottage door no handrail. Once inside there was a patio door out side to the seating area, but you had to climb up a 10inch step on to the top, step down another 10 inch to get onto the patio no handrial, which is not good when carrying out a drink or food.To get from the kitchen to the loung there was 4 steep steps angain no hand rail which again if you were carrying anything was not a good idea.I am sure it is a Health and Safty Issue,, and should be addressed as soon as posible. Also the Website for Northumbri Byways whom I booked with should put on their site that it is not suitable for the less mobile. My Husband grazed his legs many time on the steps.

Make up of party:  friend could use this as it has two bathrooms
