Description of the self catering property

the below info was not provided to the full extent, we was told our dogs barked while we went for a pub meal and therefore was not allowed to leave them, when i talked to a neighbour she said my dogs were good as gold and we found the cottage dirty and had to clean it before we settled We now offer the facility for leaving your dog in our Day Kennel. Dogs can be left during the day unattended in our kennel for free.* You can then enjoy your day out at some of our local attractions where taking your dog is not suitable. This is especially good in hot weather since the kennel is in a cool and shady location on the park. As a manufactured kennel its also safe. not happy

Sleeps: 4

Cottage Review:

The cottage we found… frankly a disappointment. We chose here for the facilities for dogs and the strong advertisement about how clean the place was. The garden and place for the dogs we found very well equipped. However, the cleanliness of the bathrooms was something to be desired and we had to clean them before use. Used toilet rolls on the floor and an overwhelming smell of damp from the rather manky bath mats. We were also told we would be provided with dish clothes yet the kitchen was more empty than a new build ! Would have been nice to have been left some salt and pepper but not a thing. You can apparently use the same hairdryer as the person before but it’s a hazard to use the seasoning. I smell cost cutting… The excuse of only leaving one toilet roll per bathroom ‘for hygiene reasons’ is frankly ridiculous as well …smells like cost cutting again. Sadly, during our time the en-suite shower broke (no ones fault and things happen). We informed and she came over at her own pace. Went for a look and said ‘the plumber might come’ Six adults using one bathroom… is a challenge to say the least. Then absolutely no communication about when the plumber may turn up and no apology or offer for this issue. To finish it off the plumber turns up completely unannounced half hour before we need to be out. What a time !! Trying to pack up and sort out with a plumber in and out isn’t the easiest. We also found having to make up and dismantle our own beds rather odd. ‘Due to COVID apparently beds can’t be made up’ however it’s perfectly acceptable to put the bottom sheets on. Yep I was as confused as well. Certainly won’t be back and hope this is used to improve their service.

DIRTY !!!

The stairs/front room/both bedrooms/kitchen/bathroom had not been cleaned since last tenant & certain items like behind the toaster (crumbs found) extractor fan,TV's (yes both TV's) lamps looked like they had not been cleaned in weeks. I did not expect pristine condition in the Oak Cottage for the price so the furniture though battered was expected yet annoying. I had to empty the vaccum cleaner, revaccum to get the place to a standard that in my experience & yours I bet should not happen or should be experienced. I found these reviews after my booking so near the end of our holiday I am postong this review. I thought these reviews were not an indication of this holiday destination. My advice is do not book at Higher Longford Cottages Tavistock Devon

The first day we arrived, we enquired at reception about the onsite access to Dartmoor for dog walking via an Intercom located by the front door. We received a rather abrupt answer that it was via the main road. That was a good indication of what was to come, they were reluctant to turn on the heating when it was 10 degrees Celsius giving us a lecture on the cost of LPG and were generally curt every time we dealt with them, to the point we left our 7 day holiday 2 days early.

The place is advertised as dog friendly, it is anything but and the cottage was in need of a thorough clean. We had to take the remote off the children as their TV had plenty of adult channels with a single children’s channel when it worked.
