Gingerbread House, Shrubbery Farm, Ilminster, Somerset, TA19 9LA

Description of the holiday cottage

The Gingerbread House is a very unique thatched holiday cottage in Somerset in a wonderful, peaceful location. The Gingerbread House holiday cottage is about 3 miles from Ilminster, within a great country estate, the Gingerbread House is a thatched, hexagonal, Grade II listed cottage with a stunning design.

On the edge of woods, about 300 yards down a farm track, 100 yards from farm buildings and about 300 yards from the busy A358 road (visible), it was built circa 1800 as the gardener's home. You are welcome to walk the 500 acres of farmland, park and woodland, by arrangement. You have a good-sized, secluded lawn with table and chairs and a barbecue, leading to woods and fields. Leaded gothic windows throuhgout, pine-shuttered.

Studded front door; little hall leading to two living rooms, one with open fireplace, one with TV/DVD; kitchen and dining room with a dishwasher and microwave; downstairs loo (washing machine, tumble drier). Steep, curved stairs (rope rail) up to three bedrooms including a double, a twin, and 3 steps down to another twin and big bathroom with wash hand basin, wc and a shower over bath. Lovely walking in the surrounding woods and fields.

Promised so much but delivered so little.

Rotten window frames, rotten thatch and flexible interior walls that should be be firm.

Should have be a fabulous holiday but more concerned about fire hazards to relax

Cottage Review:

we first stayed here in 2001 for our honeymoon and keep coming back. Lovely wood fire in main room and comfy beds, one double and 4 singles over 3 bedrooms. Can be chilly in colder months but plenty to visit and places to eat. We have used other places but keep coming back,
