Excellent cottage with beautiful views and lovely garden. Yvette made us very welcome and was there all week if needed. We stayed in Begrum with our 2 dogs. There was plenty of room and the cottage has everything you need. Breakfast in the conservatory watching the birds on the feeders outside. Perfect location for all the border towns. Love Kelso, an unspoiled market town. Lovely meal at The Contented Vine.

Just back from our 7th visit to Thairn cottage. The weather this week was glorious so we made more use of the conservatory rather than the log fire this year. Everything as great as usual in the cottage. It really has become a home from home now. We did a lot of walking this visit - downloaded some really good walks in the area (think from the Visit Scotland website) which offered a variety of walks from 2 miles on pavements to 13 miles hill climbing walks. We did several of 5-8 miles circular walks taking in the River Tweed and using old railway routes, which kept us off roads. It is a beautiful area and the cottage is well placed by being quiet and in the country, but central for visiting lots of places in the area. I highly recommend it. stayed in Mungo\'s well cottage for 4 nights, and it was a lovely place to stay. The location is great for seeing the Scottish borders and Northumberland. Views from the cottage are stunning. The furnishings are good quality, with a big comfy bed and comfortable suite. The booking process was very straight forward, I booked last minute and there was no hassle involved. On arrival there were fresh baked scones and jam which was a nice touch. I can thoroughly recommend this cottage to anyone wanting a relaxing break.

Lovely, peaceful, comfortable, clean, welcoming, views.... lots to say but you need to be there to appreciate it. A tranquil setting, lovely views and a wood burning stove, all the creature comforts you need including a huge bed. Could not recommend enough. We stayed in Mongos View which looks nice on the internet but is much better in reality. This exceeded our expectations which is just what we needed. Thank you.

Our recent stay was the 16th time we have visited since 2000. As on every visit the property was in excellent condition and very welcoming. Location and environment are exactly what we love - quiet and peaceful but close to all local amenities and easy to access. We have over the years have stayed in all 3 cottages and they are all in an excellent state of repair. Thairn has the walk in shower that we now need due to age and poor mobility but has a drawback of little or no internet access due to distance from the router. Apart from that we have had no complaints over the years and keep coming back for more rest and relaxation.

Cottage Review:

This was our 5th time of returning, which says it all really. We usually go around Easter, as we did this year, but we've been in August too. It's good in all weathers because when it's cold you have the delights of the log burning stove. When it's warmer you have a great conservatory to sit in.

The cottages are made from a converted barn so the walls are feet thick - this makes it solid and cosy and very quiet. The only sound you tend to hear is the horses at the stable next door. The height of the ceiling is wonderful; all clad in pinewood it is really high so makes the living/dining room feel really spacious.

The kitchen is well equipped and has soap and washing up liquid and good pots and pans and equipment. Electric oven and hob, and a fridge with freezer. Bed is comfortable, shower has great pressure, there's a huge bath. Lots of storage space and nice touches like tissues in the bedroom.

The conservatory is a big bonus and the gardens are beautifully kept and there are bird feeders outside your window to see sparrows and other small birds. The windows overlook rolling coutryside with cows in the distant fields. There are lovely walks in the area (detailed in the information book in the cottage).

The nearby town of Kelso has some lovely original shops (ie it's not like every other shopping centre in the UK). The supermarket in the town has unfortunately recently closed down because a large Sainsbury's has opened on the outskirts of town, but it means it's possible to get everything you need for self catering. There's a health food store and some nice bakeries in the town for day-to-day stuff.

Overall I would highly recommend it. It is our oasis of peace and calm to escape to from our busy jobs. And I like the fact that it has its Green Tourism gold award - our journey is offset by some tree planting and we get to do a bit of recycling like we do at home as a wee compost bin is provided and places for cardboard etc. It is lovely to see a holiday company adopt such a policy of social responsiblity.

If you look at the visitors book in the cottage you'll see people saying they've returned for their 11th time! Once you've found this cottage you will just want to keep going back.

We also enjoy watching the birds at the feeders, while we eat our meals in our conservatory. I watched a woodpecker attacking a fat ball from our kitchen window yesterday.

A really, really enjoyable short break, made possible by Sam and Pat's attention to detail and thoughtfulness. Tea/coffee and scones on arrival was really appreciated as was the wood burning stove just waiting to be lit, the cracking conservatory with views across the Borders countryside, the decent sized telly (even though I don't watch much!) & DVD player and hi-fi for tuning in to Radio 3 over breakfast. So glad that a cafetiere was provided!

Great to see that high standards of hospitality in Scotland can actually be achieved!

Superb accomodation - very clean and tidy. Well appointed and fitted out. Particularly well located - very quiet with peaceful gardens to the rear and views to the distant hills. Off the hallway is a large heated cupboard which easily took all our golf equipment on the one day we got it all wet. Anyone who plays golf, or walks, will really appreciate this. This is the first time we have had such a facilty which is unusual to find in holiday accomodation. Like everything in the cottage, the owners have given a great deal of thought to their client's needs.

This is a great base from which to play golf in the Borders with a choice of many excellent courses within a short driving distance. Most courses accept golf tokens and the 'Freedom of the Fairways' allows for relatively inexpensive golf. There are many golf courses, houses and castles which we did not visit and we intend to return - this is a brilliant area for a holiday.

We chose Burnbrae Mill from the Visit Scotland, The Scottish Borders brochure, because of its description and being ideal for a couple. The cottage more than exceeded our expectations. The borders setting, the accommodation, the views from the conservatory (we lived in there) are exceptional. For me, the farm setting brought back memories of my childhood summer holidays on my grandparents farm in Denmark. All in all a wonderful place for a holiday. We'll be back.

This was by far the best cottage holiday we have ever had. It was so peaceful and yet only a short distance from Kelso with all its amenities. Since we shared interests in history and gardening with Sam and Pat, our holiday was further enhanced. The accommodation was exceptional and miles above the "basic". It was wonderful to think that such a haven was only a 90 minute drive from our home. We shall be back.

We found the accomodation at Burnbrae to be exceedingly clean and comfortable. One of three units, our house (Thairn) was well-appointed and in a very central location for exploring the many delights of the Scottish Borders. While the garden was a blaze of colour during our visit in July, at any time of year Burnbrae would be a very cosy house for a weekend break or a longer holiday.

We have stayed at Burnbrae now at least 4 times, since it first opened until this year. We have never been disappointed. The cottages are very comfortable, well stocked with everything you need for self catering, they are always found clean and tidy. The location is great, just outside Kelso which has shops/places to eat and in easy distance of many historic houses/gardens etc. The coast at Berwick is not much more than 1hr away. The view from the rear of the cottages in the conservatory is lovely and peaceful. Whilst the cottages may look near to the road if you google the location, we have never been bothered by any road noise as they are well sheltered. Pat and Sam are always very helpful and friendly and we are always sad to leave. We would fully recommend Burnbrae.

Cottage Review:

What a peaceful haven this is, with friendly, welcoming hosts. Pat's delicious scones on arrival were a lovely surprise.

The cottage was even better than our impression gained from the website. Very comfortable, cosy and well equipped, with lots of local information including walks from the site.

Although the cottages are attached we were never conscious of our neighbours.

We ate all our meals in the conservatory enjoying the fantastic views.

Before arriving we were not aware of the Green Tourism scheme and were impressed by Burnbrae's Gold Award and Sam's offer to plant trees at no cost to us to offset the carbon emission of our holiday.

We never realised there was such a variety of places to visit and things to do in the Borders.

We will certainly return to Burnbrae.

Cottage Review: The accommodation is first class. All the facilities we have needed were present. As always everything is scrupulously clean and the welcome tray with drinks and home-made scones sets the tone right at the beginning of the holiday. We are both more than pleased to pass on your details to our friends with a first class recommendation.
We love the Scottish Borders and find plenty to do.
We thank you very much for your care and attention to detail. We look forward to further visits to Burnbrae

Cottage Review: 1st class cottage, with all mod. cons. Nice atmosphere and idyllic setting. Only a short break this time. Would definitely recommend to others, enjoyed wood stove and small touches, tea & scones on arrival and lovely fresh flowers in sitting room. Plenty to do and visit in the surrounding area, beautiful calming countryside, enjoyed watching the birds and the small lambs in the fields etc. Hope to return.

Cottage Review: The week not long enough. Super cottage. Loved the woodstove. Perfect day at St. Abbs. Really enjoyed Abbotsford and don't miss Paxton House - brilliant. Very impressed with the Borders - all very tidy and well cared for.
