Cottage Review:   After having a pleasant stay at the above property with our family over Easter 2012 we were horrified to receive a very abrupt letter accusing our family of stealing items such as a wooden toy from the playroom! Our deposit was witheld even though we left the house immaculate! The house is freezing (even though we stayed in April) and there is not enough hot water for all of us to shower.

Cottage Review:   WARNING!!!!!! dont stay at this property as you will be accused by the owner (weeks after your stay!) of everything from making her towels 'too dirty' to theft of a childs plastic fork! She will then retain half of your deposit towards CLEANING!!!!! even though she has already charged you a heavy £75 to have her home cleaned after your stay. . . . Completely unreasonable, rude UNPROFESSIONAL silly woman!!!!! And she controls the heating so property was FREEZING and VERY limited amounts of hot water - not even enough to shower!!! NEVER EVER AGAIN!!!!!!!!

Cottage Review:   We stayed in The Cedars House managed by Louise Munro-Smith for a sophisticated hen-weekend with proximity to Newmarket races. The Cedars is a short walk from Thurston station (near Bury St Edmunds) which has a frequent train service to Newmarket. The Cedars is beautiful and spacious but obviously a personal family home and we were made to feel a little bit like intruders. The Cedars house rules are quite strict (no shoes upstairs, strip beds, take out all rubbish, and remove recycling to local depot despite an additional £75 cleaning charge) and the check-out rather early (10am) for a 2 night stay. Additionally we were not provided enough toilet roll to last the weekend which meant an unnecessary trip to the shop to purchase some. At £450 a night we felt that the provision of toilet roll for a short stay (2 nights) should have been included. Sadly despite doing our very best effort to look after the house we were accused of damage and missing items resulting in nearly half of the hefty £450 damage deposit not being returned. More specifically, we were accused of losing/removing 3 knives and (weeks after our stay) damaging kitchen countertops with excessive cleaning to name a couple of our unjustified offences. We were not aware of such damage and we were particularly conscious not to cause damage as we constantly reminded by the various signs and instructions around the property. We requested photographic evidence of the damage, but Ms. Munro-Smith failed to provide any and claimed that the damage could not be captured in an image. The management style of Louise Munro-Smith put a definite edge to the weekend and the unpleasant exchanges following our stay have rather blighted what could have been a lovely weekend. As a group of working professional women and mothers who treated the house with the upmost respect we were astounded by the outcome of the weekend and the unprofessional manner, tone, and language used by Louise Munro-Smith. As such we could not recommend this property to others.
