Description of the self catering |
| . . . Filham House is an elegant, detached Georgian manor house on the south-eastern edge of Ivybridge, a mile from the town centre/station, set just back from, and with easy access to, the A38 (very occasionally heard). Surrounded by beautiful well-kept grounds, four acres of which are for your sole use, including large lawns, a lake, heated outdoor swimming pool (April-September) and a ruined 14th cent. chapel and tower (fabulous views from the top). Spacious and comfortable, this principally 18th cent. country house stands on the same site as the original, once home to Thomas Williams, Speaker of the House of Commons in the 1560s. Small attached mews cottage provides additional annexe accommodation with access from main house, or its own entrance behind. Also at the back, five further mews cottages (friendly young owners live in one) and office, all detached/private from main house with separate rear drive. |

7/8/09 A very relaxing break only wished we’d booked for 2 weeks. Try ‘ship inn’ at Noss Mayo 5* food. Fossil hunting at Charmouth enjoyed by all. Thanks to owners who made us very welcome we fully enjoyed all the superb facilities. |

29/5/09 Great house, lovely pool. Recommend Salcombe, Bigbury, Pennywell farm – great for kids and feeding the animals! Ivybridge, a bit limited especially for a good food shop! – So look out for 24 hour Tesco off Lee Mill junction towards Plymouth. All round a good week! Enjoy x |

Great local pub The sportsman, really good food and the pub quiz on Wednesday night has to be a highlight. I wish the beds had been a bit softer, but could not fault the standard and cleanliness of the property. Owners kept out of the way but were very approachable and helpful.
