This cottage is set in a truly wonderful location, surrounded by fields. The cottage is very well equipped and extremely comfortable. It is dog friendly and allows dogs in the downstairs rooms, but yet still remains beautifully clean and fresh. The owners are happy for you to walk in their fields (livestock permitting) and this was a true bonus for us! The owners are very helpful, not intrusive but always on hand to assist with any queries. We have been coming to Shropshire for nearly 30 years and this is one of the best cottages we have ever stayed in. We only stayed one week and wish we could stay longer to fully appreciate the cottage. We will definitely be returning and highly recommend this cottage.

Reading earlier reviews it’s difficult to add much more information. The picture one gets from those reviews paints an accurate picture of an excellent holiday cottage.

Well Meadow is a very comfortable and well equipped cottage in a beautiful quiet location yet very convenient for Ludlow and the surrounding area. There are some lovely local walks including a stroll down a private lane into the noticeably friendly village of Ashford Carbonell. The owners, Norman and Lynda, were welcoming and helpful without being at all intrusive.

Sainsbury’s is 5 minutes away along the A49. We didn’t use the Ludlow Park & Ride as it proved to be an easy 10 minute drive into Ludlow over the Ludford Bridge to a nicely central car park … 40p / hour.

Ludlow is an attractive town with a fascinating history as is Shrewsbury with many independent shops. There’s a good charity bookshop tucked in the corner at the roundabout in Craven Arms which is worth supporting.”

What a beautiful cottage in such an attractive area! We stayed in The Old Bull Pen and - despite the owners having to remove some of the soft furnishings due to Covid restrictions- the cottage was immaculate and so comfortable. We picked the hottest week to stay there and had to change a few plans during the day as a consequence but we managed some lovely days out.

We recommend Ludlow - market in the square Monday,Wednesday and Friday and some lovely cafes and eateries!

The Bread Walk around Ludlow, along the river and circling the castle is beautiful too.

Lots of pubs around with great food and as we are all vegetarian they had lots of choice for us!

We will definitely be back as lots more to explore.

Many thanks Norman and Lynda - we had a wonderful week!

Well meadow is a most beautiful property, standing alone amidst open countryside without any noise except for the bleating of sheep, birdsong and the occasional crowing from a distant cockerel. The owners Lynda and Norman could not have been more welcoming and were lovely to chat to during the week. Due to the very hot weather we curtailed plans to visit places by car and instead immersed ourselves in the local area, walking the owners extensive fields and into the ‘chocolate box’ village from where there are abundant walks in all directions. We spent hours outside of the cottage watching an array of wildlife, garden birds, buzzards, a visiting owl, squirrels and 2 weasels who popped by occasionally! Our best tip would be to take bird food with you to put out and you will be well rewarded. One of our favourite places, we only got home yesterday and are already talking about when we can return!

Usual warm welcome and cottage still excellent if a little less familiar, with restricted tourist info and extras - as per government regulations. Weather wonderful, a little chilly but great for long walks and managed to sit in the courtyard for drinks most days. So pleased to enjoy a few days a little further from home in such a pleasant location. Many thanks to Norman and Lynda.

Over the last 40 years we have rented many self catering properties and Well Meadow has to be one of the very best we have ever stayed in. It is comfortable, well equipped with quality furniture, fixtures & fittings and, for the out of season break, warm. A lovely peaceful private, but not remote, location with lots of walks from the doorstep. The hosts Norman and Lynda (and Ruby) are very helpful and welcoming. Perfect for a relaxing (lazy) holiday but there are also plenty of activities, attractions and places of interest nearby for the more energetic. This was our second stay here and we will definitely be returning.

We stayed at Well Meadow for a lovely relaxing week waking only to the sound of sheep and birds. Norman and Lynda were exceptionally helpful and their recommendations for local walks and places to eat were great. The village is very peaceful and has no through traffic and had eggs and fresh local soft fruit available with honesty box payments. No shops in village, but a Co-op available 5 minutes away by car. A really delightful home from home.

This was our second stay at Ashford Farm Cottages. Well Meadow is a beautiful conversion with amazing views to Clee Hill. Washing up was a pleasure! The cottage was spotlessly clean and well presented and equipped with everything needed for the holiday. There are many lovely country walks from the door and plenty of interesting towns and villages within a short drive. We would definately book again and 100% recommend a stay at Ashford Farm Cottages. Norman and Linda certainly deserve their 4 star Gold status.

We have been renting holiday cottages for many years and the Ashford cottage there in Shropshire must be one of the best. We ran a holiday cottage for 14years and appreciate the work involved in order to make sure everything is in tip-top condition and clean. Our Ashford cottage was no exception. all rooms were with their own on suite. The quiet and private situation was restful and perfect.

What a wonderful week we had at The Old Bull Pen. The cottage was extremely comfortable, very well equipped, in a beautiful setting and the standard set an extremely high bar of what to look for in the future. The welcome hamper and cake were an added bonus. It is a charming cottage in a very friendly village with wonderful places to visit not far away. Thank you.

We've just come home from a really wonderful long weekend at Threshers Cottage and none of us wanted to leave! We arrived to find a tray of teacups all laid out waiting for us, along with a delicious cake and a hamper of goodies which was a lovely welcome after a long journey in the car. Norman and Lynda are lovely warm hosts and kindly showed us around the cottage, clearly explained how everything worked and recommended some of their favourite local spots for good walks and meals out. Threshers Cottage is warm, cosy and immacuately clean with modern bathrooms (complete with lovely toiletries) and a very well equipped kitchen. The bright conservatory overlooks the stunning garden and we spent many hours relaxing in the comfy conservatory chairs or out on the patio, with a pot of tea, simply enjoying the peace and tranquility. Ashford Carbonel is the quinessential chocolate box village and the villagers are very warm and friendly, happy to chat and invite you to local village events. We'd recommend taking a wander across the farm to visit the horses and sheep which are very friendly and happy to meet visitors! We'd also recommend taking a walk down to the little beach in the village. It's on the river Teme and is an idyllic spot. Nearby Ludlow is a gorgeous town and we loved having a wander around the market and a spot of lunch out on the terrace at Ludlow Castle tearooms. We'd also recommend the small breeds farm park and owl centre in Kington which is a fabulous day out, both for children and grown up animal lovers alike! All in all, we were so pleased we chose to stay at Threshers Cottage and would highly recommend it to all. We hope to visit again soon!

We had a wonderful time at this cottage, which was located in a beautiful village but conveniently close to Ludlow. The cottage was perfect for our family, charming, fully equipped with everything we needed and very clean. The owners were friendly and helpful but gave us space and privacy to get on with it. I would thoroughly recommend it for both young families and those with mobility issues (we had my mum with us who appreciated being on one floor and the wide doors. Thoroughly recommended.

Had a fabulous time in the very comfortable Threshers cottage. Extremely well presented. Lots of space and plenty of kitchen equipment. The children loved the badminton raquets and we all enjoyed the board games in the evening.

The tennis court and playing field down the road were great facilities as was Teme Beach on the river for the younger members. We had grand weather and enjoyed food, cycling and walking.

This was our second visit to Well Meadow and was as good as the first. Despite the variable weather including sleet and snow, this is a very cosy and comfortable cottage to hunker down in!

We would heartily endorse all the comments in the other reviews below. There are some lovely National Trust properties within easy driving distance, we particularly enjoyed Attingham Park.

The lambs in the field were a constant source of entertainment.

This is a special place for a restful break. We will definitely return.

We spent a fabulous Christmas week at Wellpond Cottage, the cottage is in the perfect setting surrounded by farmland with a fabulous view of Clee Hill. The cottage is warm and cosy, and very comfortable. The kitchen is very well equipped, cooked a full Christmas dinner with all the trimmings, found everything we needed. The cottage is dog friendly with a fully enclosed garden, a huge benefit, and some great walks from the door step. The cottage is perfect spot for a quiet, relaxed break with Ludlow very close by. Worth listening out for the owls hooting at night, magical!

This was our second visit to Threshers cottage and what can I say? Once again the from the moment we booked our holiday to our arrival back home we were treated like old friends. We received the warmest of welcomes, the basket of local produce was such a lovely treat. There was a tea and coffee supplies including milk and a cake! The cottage is very well equipped with all that we needed for our stay with board games and books to ensure you are never bored.

There is plenty to do locally and the Tudges have helpfully compiled a list of the information on where to find the places you may need. The children love visiting as much as we do! They have also made the cottage very dog friendly with, balls, bowls, blankets etc provided for our canine companion. The open fire with what feels like an endless supply of wood is just perfect for our winter visits.

It's such a pleasure to stay there and we will definitely be returning just as soon as we can. Thank you once again for a wonderful stay!

We stayed in Threshers cottage for a week in September and it was exceptional in every way. Lovely local welcome goodies and plenty of tea/coffee etc to make a drink on arrival. On first arrival at The Old Bull Pen, we were delighted. A lovely hamper was waiting for us with a homemade lemon cake - delicious. The traditional cottage was more than well equipped, clean and comfortable, a home from home. It was very private, but not far from the owners property and other cottages on the site. Each bedroom has it's own en-suite bathroom. There was a gas BBQ and table/chairs for 6 at both the rear and front of the property. The lawn area is small but the driveway was large enough for us to set up our badminton net to keep the children happy! Ludlow is only 3 miles away, a beautiful town with lovely walks, shopping and restaurants. Norman is a wonderful host and was on hand with questions and a replacement gas canister when the BBQ ran out halfway through cooking! Would definitely recommend staying here, pity we couldn't experience the log wood-burner, but it was far too hot! Thank you for a lovely stay - The McLaren family (including Mavis the dog)

Second time visiting this lovely cottage. Rarely have we returned to accommodation a second time but this cottage is above and beyond. In a beautiful village with lots to offer in terms of walks and friendly local people, the cottage itself is set back from the main village, surrounded by sheep fields and the odd cow. The cottage is well equipped, providing us with beautifully comfortable beds and a lovely welcome hamper. Plenty to do in the surrounding area and our dogs also love coming here. Norman and Lynda could not be more welcoming or accommodating if they tried. Thank you again for a lovely stay. We are already planning our next visit. Rebecka and Tom

We stayed in The Bull Pen. This is our sixth visit and the reasons we keep coming back are as follows. First we have a lively dog and she is made welcome, the farm provides local walking and the cottage is practical for dogs - nice easy to clean floor in the diner/kitchen. The owners Norman and Lynda are alwasy welcoming and obliging. We love the area with so much history to explore. The bedrooms are all en suite and the master bedroom is separated from the others, making it private and quiet.

If you are a dog owner then everything is in place for your visit. It is clean and well equipped indeed everything you could wish for. There are two outdoor tables each with six chairs which were well used by our group as we were blessed with fantastic weather. The Old Bull Pen was perfect for a family of 6 (plus 2 dogs!).The cottage is very well laid out, very clean and has everything that you can possibly need. We were able to get some much needed R and R in, cosy evenings with the roaring fire, alongside some lovely country walks and meals out in Ludlow.

We have previously visited as a family of four and stayed at Well Meadow, which was also very lovely and comes highly recommended by us.

We had a lovely time at the cottage and our hosts were so nice and accommodating. We didn’t get to see much of the area as it was the weekend of the heavy snow storms, possibly the worst for many years, so Sunday we stayed inside. However we did get to enjoy the beautiful views across the fields and the view of the cottage surrounded by snow, it was like a scene from the film, The Holiday. We will try to come back in the summertime so we can enjoy the area

We stayed in Threshers Cottage which was delightful, A very well equipped, comfortable, exceptionally clean 3 bed cottage, which had a fully enclosed garden for our dog, the cottage also had a conservatory, kitchen diner and separate utility room all with tiled floors. Outside there is a hose so you can easily clean your dogs paws after a lovely walks in the area and around the pretty village of Ashford Carbonell. Norman is a lovely man, who I exchanged several emails with before our visit, and couldn't have been more helpful when we finally met. I would have no hesitation recommending Ashford Farm Cottages to anyone. The situation near Ludlow is perfect too just 3 to 4 miles away.

The Old Bull Pen is welcoming, tasteful, comfortable practical and very peaceful and private. All aspects exceeded our expectations with extras such as a cloakroom, in addition to the en-suites to every bedroom, private parking, an enclosed lawn with a patio and BBQ, a south facing courtyard, multiple external doors, a large kitchen diner with double doors, a cosy lounge,a utiliy room and temporary handles etc put in place to make life easier for my 87 year old mother, who has limited mobility and found the accommodation met her needs. Hosts Norman & Lynda friendly & helpful. Warm Welcome. Cottage has all "mod-cons" plus delightful decor. Dreamy beds, beautiful linen, super-kitchen. Well designed bathroom, sparkling-new. Comfortable space everywhere. Excellent security & safety. Lovely garden.

Friendly, local people in delightful, active, village. Within easy reach by car to many places of interest, including the TV-famous "Acton Scott Historical Farm",(see the Shire horses), and several National Trust houses. For walkers, some of the most beautiful scenery in England. If you love the music "On Wenlock Edge" - come and see where it was inspired.

Beautiful house with everything you need and more. Our hosts were very welcoming and we felt so at home very quickly.

The children (ages 6&7) loved exploring the dell behind the cottage and the walks about the farm were perfect for our little two.

Peaceful cottage and location. Perfectly placed talk to explore the wonderful county and countryside.

Thank you for a really great few days. We'd recommend to anyone and we'd love to go back.

Cottage Review:

On booking Well Meadow Cottage, I had a feeling that it was going to be a special place because of the way it was described to be so dog friendly and because of communications with Norman beforehand. He seemed like such a lovely chap and that came across on email. On arrival, we were welcomed by Lynda who was lovely and explained about walks in the area and about the fact that we could use all their fields for walking the dogs (we visited at a time when the sheep were away for lambing so had full access to most of the fields owned by the farm). It was amazing, stress free dog walking in a beautiful part of the UK. So peaceful and so pretty.

The welcome pack was a lovely touch with some beautiful locally made jam, beer and other goodies.

Well Meadow cottage itself is just ideal when you have dogs. The kitchen floor is tiled and all the doors can be securely closed so that dogs can sleep in the space comfortably.

The outside garden is fully enclosed so again, this is perfect for four legged friends.

The inside of the cottage is a lovely and spacious for a 2 bedroomed property. Its also well equipped. It's especially nice that the cottage is down it's own track so you are away from it all, yet the owners are on hand at the farm , down the lane should you need anything.

We have stayed at many properties over the last 10 years with our dogs, probably about 3 cottages per year on average. Well Meadow was one of the nicest places we have ever stayed that suited ours and the dogs needs perfectly. It's also very well located for Ludlow, with the town being approx 3-4 miles away.

We don't tend to go back to the same property twice as we like to see different places but this place was an absolute delight and we would definitely love to come back sometime. Big thank you to Norman and Lynda for being such lovely hosts.

What can I say? Even before arriving, I knew this would be a lovely holiday. Norman was friendly and welcoming via email so it was no surprise he would be the same in person.

Threshers cottage is beautiful! All the things you would expect to be there, were and a whole lot more. It was comfortable, clean, tidy and so very well equipped.

There is a comfortable living room with open fire, a well equipped kitchen and utility room. A conservatory which looks out on to a private garden. The bedrooms were simply furnished and the beds were very comfortable. Bathrooms were immaculate and boutique style toiletries added a finishing touch. Norman and Lynda have done a fabulous job creating a home from home for their guests. They went above and beyond providing everything any guest would require. The little extras; books, board games and lots of local information provided in the cottage, made our time there so very easy.

I would book again in a heartbeat and plan to do so as soon as possible.

We stayed in the Bull Pen five years ago for our 40th Wedding Anniversary and loved the cottage. Visiting last week the high standard of accommodation, facilities and cleanliness had not dropped at all. and we also rented Threshers which was equally fantastic. All of our party sent emails afterwards saying how good it was.

Make up of party:  This time it was a school reunion for 9 of us. The cottages provided a wonderful base for exploring the surrounding countryside and we had timed it to go to the Ludlow food festival. Brilliant week.

Was staying here with my parents for a short break. Having stayed in others of Norman and Lynda's Cottages I can safely say that, once again, a 5* holiday was had by all. The quality of the properties is second to none, with detailed and useful information on everything you could possibly want and need. Dog friendly in the truest sense, Family friendly, Warm Welcoming, extremely comfortable, home from home. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend any of the cottages here, the location. This wasn't our first and I doubt it will be our last stay here. Absolutely fabulous.

Cottage Review:

We have stayed in others of Norman and Lynda’s cottages previously, over Christmas or New Year, and always had a fantastic time. This was our first time in Summer, and our first time at the Old Bull Pen. We were able to enjoy the reality of the two sun-trap patios (they catch the sun at different times of day). The cottage’s facilities were ideal for a family time, gathering together our grownup children who now live far away from us, and making their dogs welcome too. Safe enclosed garden areas, great for dogs or young children. Plenty of dog-friendly and child-friendly walks right from the cottage, through the fields and farmland, or through the village. Lots of helpful information and maps, also for more energetic walkers/hikers on outdoor pursuits; and a large choice of indoor activities if the weather is bad: choose a book from the large selection, play a game, do a jigsaw, listen to music (radio, CD player, iPod dock) – or even watch television!

All the cottages are of the highest standard of cleanliness and convenience, with all home comforts. The owners live nearby, are always ready to help, but never intrusive.

The location is superb, the countryside on your doorstep, but the facilities (markets, supermarkets, shops, pubs, restaurants, takeaways) of a town are less than ten minutes’ drive away. Support local food producers by shopping at the Ludlow Food Centre. Enjoy a full English breakfast in the Kitchen there. There are many interesting and lovely places to visit within easy reach. We never tire of it.

We stayed in the Old Bull Pen. This is a lovely cottage with very good facilities. The weather was bitterly cold but we were always cosy and warm inside. The kitchen facilities are excellent. So many thoughtful touches such as dog towels, bowls etc. and lovely cake for the humans. We got plenty of useful advice on places to go with the dog in and around Ludlow. The village is very pretty and we did some good walks straight from the door. The patio areas around the cottage are lovely with very comfortable furniture. It would be a real sun trap if the sun had shone!

This was our first stay in Grazers Cottage on Ashford Farms but definitely not our last - the property is in a lovely village ideally located to explore Shropshire. The cottage is well maintained with lovely homely furnishings and is equipped with everything you would want for a self catering holiday. A lovely cake and welcome basket were left for us, which are the finer touches to make it all the more special. The owner was very helpful and friendly and told us about lots of places and walks around Shropshire as it was our first time there. Well Meadow is in a private setting down a track from the main farm house. It offers a high standard of cleanliness and comfort with it's own enclosed garden [perfect for us as we have a little dog]..

We have stayed in the past in one of the other property's to rent on the farm and this too was of the same high standard.

Cottage Review:

Excellent cottage. Everything provided that one could possibly need. A pleasure to stay in. In fact we could have stayed there for months! A lovely welcoming hamper provided. Ideal location for exploring. We enjoyed visiting Ludlow, Stokesay Castle and Powis Castle to name a few.

Cottage Review:

We have stayed at Ashford Farm Cottages for the last 6 years. Each cottage has a home from home feel, all is provided for you even down to the tea towels, washing liquid. Lovely log fires which are great in the winter. Lynda and Norman live on site, and are very approachable if anything needs to be done. Ludlow has many lovely places to eat and each cotage has a guest book, with places to go and eat, and also where to avoid, based on other peoples reviews. One you have stayed in at Ashford Farm cottages, you will always return back.

Cottage Review:

We have visited several times in the last few years.0ur latest visit was to the Old Bull Pen which has exceptional accomodation. Previouly we have been to Well Meadow (3 times) and Threshers.

All cottages are maintained to the best standards of any cottages we have visited.Cleanliness is excellent and equipment is superb.

Welcome pack of a cake, milk, local crisps, jam and bottle of local beer plus cider are a rare treat.

All have good well maintained gardens.

Very dog friendly so much so dog blanket, towel and bowl are provided.

Very friendly and helpful on site owners.

Able to walk dogs acrooss the farm fields. Near to Ludlow town which is a lovely town with most pubs being dog and children friendly.

Wonderful cottages for a peaceful friendly holiday. Villagers are also very friendly.

Make up of party:  Family sharing (part of time) plus dog. Previously myself, wife and two dogs.

Having stayed four times at Threshers Cottage it has always been very clean, and well appointed, with a home from home feeling. Ideal location for visiting Shropshire and the surrounding area. Mr & Mrs Tudge really make you feel very welcome.

We have been visiting Ashford Farms Cottages for over ten years. During that time we have stayed in each one of their cottages. They have all been maintained to an extremely high standard.

We thoroughly enjoy our stays and look forward to our next visit. There is always a warm welcome from Linda, Norman and of course Ruby

Cottage Review:

I rent this cottage every summer because it has everything I want in a holiday destination. My mother is very elderly and it is a perfect location for her. Facilities throughout the cottage are excellent, especially the conservatory and large garden. I can take my dog and there are some wonderful walks on the farm itself and through the village. The owners are lovely - they leave you alone but, at the same time, are always on hand should there be a problem and going the extra mile this summer by providing a wheelchair was just fantastic. I would recommend this property 100% to anybody - just as long as there is still room for me!
